Ok, just picked up the game an hour ago. Much improved from last year. Noticeable difference in the fluidity. The demo is not as fluid as the actual game. I havent had a chance to go play online yet, but there were only 5 people in the EAST lobby before and none in any other.

One weird thing is that during gameplay, the commentators do not talk. They did in the demo. I tried looking through the settings to turn them on, but they were.... weird. Maybe if I restart the game it will work. Anyway, the game does give you that college football feel. Some new animations that are only in NCAA and not Madden.

You have to take the game for what its worth not try and make it something its not. Is it the best college football sim out there, probably not, is it the only next gen college sim out there, YES....

I personally like the audible menus in game, and the pre-snap audibles are way easier to navigate...

I have NCAA '08 and downloaded the rosters from the net and uploaded last year via USB thumb drive. If the '09 rosters are compatible with '08, I see no need to upgrade other than the online play.

You will need to wait until those guys get the file created again for this years version. Usually comes out in a few weeks....

all this stuff is definitely true. passing accuracy is ridiculously off the charts and special teams (kick returns) are way too wide open. Like I said in the other thread the game is fun, but needs some fixes badly. Human running game is just about perfect now in my eyes, and the animation system is working a lot better. cpu run game was really bad though when I played last night, even on AA with skewed sliders meant to help them. If you are looking for a nice sim with realistic stats, you may want to rent this one first or hold off for a patch.

kind of upsets me that it was released in such a poor state. I guess I will keep this sucker wrapped until we know if these are patchable problems.

Can you move or eliminate the constant scoreboard? That made it difficult to play NCAA 2008 on my plasma..I'm hoping you can turn it off or that it at least is transparent or at least moves.

no. ea seems to have a fetish with these damn static overlays...

Game is rubbish.....I mean broken. I'm returning it until they patch not only the AI, but also the controls.

Just like last year you can not edit all of the defensive controls to play like the PS2 games. Why? I do not know. I do know that I don't want to strafe with R2 or L2, I want it to be R1. I also want to switch players with X, not stripe the ball!!!!!

If there's an honest explanation as to why you can edit most of the other controls and just not the one's on defense, then I would love to hear it.

I know man i am just freaking out cause i had to spend an extra 100 bucks last year trading out the ps3 versions for the xbox360 versions because of performance issues and now this.

To me, this is a very minor issue (and I am certain both systems experience it if it is in fact an issue).

What I want to know is if they allow local players to be on the same team (I know they did on PS2, but not any of the 360 versions I have had).

That's a big feature they added back to both console versions this year, and I use this feature also just not as much as the 1v1.

Sweet, because I used to play with my dad in my Dynasty (whenever I visited him), but recently I couldn't. :( Glad to hear it is back. Maybe I can coax my g/f into playing, lol.

That Kuro can take it ;) My 5070 suffers when I play Battlefield (thanks for the bright white boxes, EA) and they are gone in a few minutes with some Discovery HD. Pixel Junk Monsters gives me the same problem. I've never had issue with any sports games, though.

FOR years I have complained about the 4th Qtr Madden/NCAA Curse....Meaning every team that is trailing in the 4th qtr usually always makes some freakish inhuman catches or runs and the team that is winning watches the ball bounce off their recievers hands even when they are so wide open...

CASE IN POINT..

My first online NCAA Game I am up 31-24 with less than 3 minutes to play. I pick off a pass and immediately fumble it back to the other guy. Fine, one play NBD.

<2min left - He ends up turning the ball over to me on downs. I went to the air because he couldnt cover it all day. THREE straight passes to WIDE OPEN and i mean wide open players it bounces off their hands. I punt.

<1min left- He literally runs the exact same play 5 times and each time I double cover his WR he still catches the ball through the defenders bodies. I watched the replay and it goes through the DBs body?!?!?!?

He has the ball on the 1yd line with 3secs left. 4th and goal throws a jump ball that my DB diddnt want to jump for so he ties the game.

IN OT he gets the ball returns the Kickoff for a TD....(which not to mention it is way to effin easy to return kickoffs)

This happens ALL the time, to me even if Im up like 52-0 the final score will be like 52-24. All tds in like the last few minutes. I HATE THE Catch Up rule

Your game has to be televised to have announcers, it was that the last two years too (at least on 360).

Yeah, this sort of thing bothers me. I wonder how much of this game is "shaped" by the CPU.

I cannot defend the pass to save my life. I've gotten steadily better at offense over the first 5 or so games I've played but I just get carved up by the passing game time and time again....man I suck

no, the game is skewed towards ridiculous offense this year. EA's "wide open gameplay" translates roughly to "no defense". Probably the biggest issue I'm having with the game right now and hopefully it's addressed in a patch. Coverage AI can be pretty bad at times and the cpu qb is deadly accurate. They also severely toned down the pass rush and defensive pursuit. For example...take a LB pre snap and move him around. See how fast he's moving? Now, move him after the snap..what happened?

I don't know how anyone can play this game right now on the PS3 or 360. The defensive AI for the cpu and your cpu teammates is flat-out-broken.

My roommate (who's the definition of a casual gamer) said that it looks like I'm playing Tecmo Bowl in HD the way the defense moves like a flock of birds around the field while chasing the ball carrier.

Ok I'm officially done with this game online....

Servers always are laggy BUT now I've had it....

So FIRST drive of the game very first drive...He tries to draw my D-Line offside and it worked he got the cpu to jump....very next play I try to jump the snap (which mind you the game has added this feature) then i go offside unintentionally so I get booted from a game for "Excessive Delay" what a crock....

So I'm only going to play PS2 games on it?:rolleyes: I did my research before buying NCAA 2009. Without question, the PS2 version has fewer bugs and is playable right now. I'm not going to waste money on a PS3 version of the game simply because it's PS3.

Roster issues aside, there are far more problems with the PS3 version that may not be fixed at all. Have fun waiting for a patch.

The EA reps over at operation sports have already announced there will be 2 patches. As I understand it, the first is already in the Sony/MS certification process to fix the roster editing bug. The 2nd will be for gameplay related issues.

Now the only thing that would lead me from getting 360 over PS3 is the online play... 360's servers Rock never lag as opposed to PS3's Online play for Madden is virtually unplayable

The sad thing is that their servers have sucked for years and at this point you just have to wonder if they even care about truly fixing it. Madden has been bad online ever since the network adapter came out for PS2. Always that slight delay. All of their sports games are terrible online. The only EA Sports game I've played online that's been even remotely close to being decent was FIFA 08, but even that had its fair share of issues.

I also want to be able to do 1080p out and for some reason PS3 games not in 1080p only come out in 720p. :eek:

I think it is notoriously difficult to get sports games working well online. I've played the NBA 2k series online for quite a few years and the lag is normally no better than what is experienced in Madden. The discouraging thing, however, is that the recent additions of Madden feel approximately the same online as Madden 2003 and 2004 on PS2.

so far i think 09 is much better than 08. the stadium pulse-type atmosphere, the ability to ice the kicker, the much improved line calls, the situation specific custom soundtrack options...

Another issue I have is that all the CPU's running backs run like Barry Sanders. Give the CPU the worst of the worst teams and they have a back that's juking and spinning his way through your lazy defensive secondary.

play with a team with a better defense. or learn to play defense yourself better. i do not have this problem and have been able to contain some pretty damn good running backs

I know how to play defense. I know offense sucked on 08, but still I had shutouts in 90% of my games and rarely gave up positive rushing yards in a game. The defense in 09 stinks. The DB's are slow and stand around as ball carriers and receivers run past them or just whiff on the tackle attempt. As for a team with better defense, I've played with a variety of top defensive teams, they all stink in 09.

A huge new feature in 09' is the new animations especially the juke moves from the RB. They are really slick moves and unfortunately are leading to larger gains on mediocre RBs....

Take the game for what it is.....its not Madden (although not sure if that is a standard anymore) it is a watered down version of a Sports Sim...

I'm not making excuses for it just saying its hard to hold it up to such high standards when its NCAA football not NFL

Since you don't know which teams I use or anything about my defensive skill level, your response makes no sense. You're clearly playing a different 09 than I am if your defense is stopping anyone.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I had hopes for this one (and still hope the patches fix things). I liked playing 07. Even with it's problems, I found a way to have fun with 08 by adjusting my strategy. The problems in 09 have to be dealt with in the code, not playing style.

yes we all know there are code issues...they are working on it..lets hope we actually see a difference

I know defense. That's how I win in Madden and previous NCAAs. My personal measure of a good defensive game is <100 yards surrendered and a shutout. The defense in this game has been watered down. Sounds like you've been fortunate, good for you.

Hey not sure if anyone brought this up before but I was beating a team pretty bad and by the end of the 3rd quarter like half the fans left the stadium. The stadium was full at the beginning of the game....

Which leads me to believe the devs spent more time on stuff like this then actual gameplay lol

I'll check the sliders when I get home. I know there are sliders, but not sure what categories there are. I disagree with the RBs all being like Barry Sanders though. I play in the MAC, and while some backs play a little better than their stats, I haven't found one that was performing well outside his physical capabilities.

out of curiosity...can someone explain to me why Kansas - a 76 overall or something like that - is ranked #17 and above Tennessee - a 92 overall (ranked #19). There are other instances of this, but this is the first one that comes to mind (ahem...Go Vols!).

I actually had a freeze happen right before I was starting a game. Sadly I just finished recruiting (quick calling) some of my best players and had great responses which mae my school no. 1 or 2 on their lists... This sucks... :mad:

you create new profiles under the save feature. you load them under the load feature. you can then select your profiles after you pick your teams.

note: the game only loads one profile upon start up.

The EA reps over at operation sports have already announced there will be 2 patches. As I understand it, the first is already in the Sony/MS certification process to fix the roster editing bug. The 2nd will be for gameplay related issues.

i know this, i was just saying that i don't think they will fix all the problems. i hope i'm wrong. actually, i don't really care because i only rented it until madden comes out. hopefully madden went through a more rigorous testing process. (doubt it)

I have actually seen this be beneficial as long as the host has a fairly fast uplink and no other activity on the line.

it leaves off 4 teams that cause issues until the patch comes out. they're scrub teams, at least, so it's not much of an issue, and will be fixed with the patch.

I've never bought NCAA, but I ask because the engine is the same as Madden's, and Madden was HORRIBLE last yr for the ps3. All I'm really looking for is a decent/smooth running game. I rented madden '08 and the game felt like a pc game w/ an old/slow processor/etc. I noticed it would clearly drop frames at times, lag when pressing buttons (like a spin would happen 1 sec AFTER hitting the button, etc.), etc. Is it the same this yr or is gameplay much smoother? Thanks guys for your opinions.

Mike i had to spend an extra 80 bucks last year to take the ps3 versions back and get the xbox versions, that is not the case this year (at least for ncaa) they both perform and look the same.

I just got this yesterday and the only point of frustration is that I can't cut replays off, you have to watch the whole scene.

Also, I found the AI to be somewhat lacking so far (will probably get better as i learn the ins and outs). I play with a relatively crappy team in dynasty mode and I beat my opponent (on varsity till I get used to the controls) 49-0

Don't fall for it!!! The demo plays much different from the actual game. The retail game has all kinds of crazy AI problem that shockingly don't seem to show up in the demo. The kick and punt coverage also seems to be different in the final game.

This is a rent first kind of football game.

Man, I have been playing this game since its inception, but I can clearly say that I just flat suck anymore without having the time to play a lot.

I can't run the ball to save my life, and the computer can break tackles all day long no matter how crappy the team is.

To me, there are too many plays on offense. Some teams literally have 70 some odd pages of shotgun plays alone. I have yet to find a handful of bread and butter plays to go to in the crunch.

Color me frustrated.

Away games always gives the home team (no matter how bad they are) an extra edge. It is hard but once you finally get on them by a couple of TDs they fall over...

GQ, I looked at some reviews online and it definetly seems like it has some big problems. I noticed my defensive AI (in coverage) seemed VERY slow to react/etc. There are certainly problems, but hopefully they've fixed some of these with madden. At LEAST the game is actually playable.. unlike madden '08. That game was horrible!

Picked it up at Lunch and played a quick game against my son (15 yr old). We played lower-echelon teams for the heck of it: I was Air Force, and he was Florida International.

I won 28-21. We liked it a lot, they really captured the "feel" of college football in a big way. It was a blast running options out of the Flex Formation.

I've read bad things about the A.I., so I'll have to get a few games under my belt before I can comment on that. But I like it so far.

That's what I was trying to do, but the roster file would not show up. Went home for lunch and played around with it. On the load file screen, it was set to profiles...just had the move the d-pad to the left to bring up "all" files or roster files :o.

The PS3 patch is actually out, I think it was released yesterday.

I'm wondering if anyone has played NCAA 2009 for the PS2 and compared it to the PS3 version? From what I've read on other forums the PS2 version is the best playing version this year. Now I know it would defeat the purpose of having a PS3 to go out and buy the PS2 version but I'm tired of playing next gen football games that have bad gameplay.

NCAA 2004 is still arguably the best version of this franchise and from what I'm reading 2009 for the PS2 surpasses 2004. Once you get past all the pretty graphics it comes down to game play and having owned every next gen version of Madden and NCAA (for the XBOX 360) there have always been game play issues as making the game look pretty to take advantage of the new more powerful hardware has always taken precedence over solid game play.
