Logitech goes wireless with its PS3 racing wheel

Serious fans of racing games on the PS3 have found the Logitech Driving Force GT to be the steering wheel of choice, with its force feedback, gearshift, and 3-pedal configuration going a long way to recreating the on-track experience of Formula One, NASCAR, and the like. But that unit's $150 price tag, excess of cables, and setup requirements (it needs to be clamped to a table) made it a tough choice for all but the most dedicated race fan. More casual driving and racing aficionados will be happy, then, to see the newly announced Driving Force Wireless. While the single-housing steering wheel drops the gearshift and outboard pedals, it maintains the force feedback feature of the step-up model. Moreover, it's completely wireless (except for the power cord) and utilizes a contoured, expandable lap rest rather than a table clamp--making it a lot easier to pack up and toss in a closet when not in use. Look for the Driving Force Wireless to hit stores soon for $100.

I didn't know that the "Logitech Driving Force GT" had a gear shift and 3 pedals.

Does it still have 900 degrees of rotation?

No gear shift and no pedals = no buy.
I would love a G25 but can't justify the price :(

I hear ya. I'm currently trying to sneak the G25 past the female in-house terminator but she's too savvy and knows the difference between the $150 and $300 models.
*hit.

I am guessing nobody at Logitech has ever actually tried to use a FF wheel on their frickin LAP.

It does NOT work. Unless you think FF motors digging the wheel into the tops of your thighs is a good thing.

This is a truly weetaarded idea if ever I saw one. Yay to wireless, but this is just wrong on alot of levels.

I own the GT and love it... the "gear shift" sits right next to the wheel, and you push it forward or backward.

It doesn't have 3 pedals, though... just two.

I don't think the GT is the "steering wheel of choice" for the serious race fans... those are the ones that fork out $300 for the Driving Force Pro which does have the three pedals.

It would be awesome if it were wireless, but no way I would give up the pedals, clamps and shifter just to save $50. I can deal with a cable going into my PS3.

What good is a racing wheel if you don't have at least gas and brake pedals???

I can't imagine how this would work without pedals. Would you hold down the X button while trying to steer at the sametime?

The G25 is compatible with the PS3? USB connection?

The G25 is USB and compatible with the PS3. Most racing games support it I think. It's an awesome wheel, its only drawback on the PS3 would be that the controller buttons are not mapped on the wheel but on the shifter extension, which makes pit stops in F1 CE a pita.

I agree! If theirs no pedals or shifter then you mine as well use the controller. If Fantec(sp?) can make a wireless Porsche wheel then what's wrong with Logitech?

Also can companies stop attaching the shifter to the wheel base. All wheels that have shifters should make them like the G25.

Actually, the Driving Force Pro has only 2 pedals. The only Logitech wheel with 3 pedals is the G25. And you don't have to spend $300 on it. Check out NCIX.com (or NCIXUS.com if you're in the US). Shipping rates are reasonable too. It's a great wheel though. And I agree, wireless is a nice feature, but who races without pedals?

Oops.. I meant the G25. That's a good price on one at that site!! I still wouldn't fork over that much cash, however I really like the pedals on the G25. The ones on my GT are just plain ole' black plastic. They work great, but having that metal look would be really cool!

That site is out of stock much like almost every other one. I know in the beginning the G25 was supposed to be limited production. Maybe there just Finlay running out of them.:p

This looks like it's only $30 at Gamestop. It may be worth it at that price. What do y'all think?

Can't go wrong at that price.
I use mine with NFSS - works great.

No pedals = fail. I just can't imagine holding a button and steering at the same time.
