Possibly my favorite PS2 game series is on its way to the PS3 Sony said at E3. Nothing but a small teaser (http://ps3.ign.com/dor/objects/886158/god-of-war-iii/videos/gow3_trailer_e308.html) was shown, but I'll keep the latest news, pics, and articles posted here as it comes.

Release date: ???

This was the biggest "duh" of the presentation. It was also an impressively dull teaser. But I'm excited nonetheless.

I'd guess it sees release no sooner than April/May 2009. If it misses that window, it won't get released until fall 2009 (more likely).

I hate it when they say teaser and they show you...a CGI intro. :P Gameplay or NOTHING.

I remember the GOW2 trailer with Kratos ripping the wings off those flying things....and the crowd going "OOHhh...>>OOOH!!!<<<". That wuz awesome.

Also, water is wet.

Seriously, though. Thanks for the tip. I had no idea this was coming, I was very satisfied by the thorough conclusion of GOW2.

Both games were released in March of their years (2005 and 2007), so I have a feeling Sony will stay consistent. Of course, unless they want to pull a Halo!

i don't see why it wouldn't be coming in early '09. hell, halo 3 launched a year after the 360 did, so gow3 is already behind.

It feels like a Fall or holiday 09 release to me now. I guess just because they haven't revealed anything at all about the game yet.

2009? Really?

Looking at past and current sony projects (excluding insomniac) I would expect this game to ship at least a year, year and a half after its projected release date. Since there is no release date yet, I would guess sony will shoot for a fall 09, and it will eventually slip to a fall 10/spring 11 release.

March 2009 would need a miracle. March 2010 is more realistic. If I had to guess, I'd say November 2009.

The game is already very far into development, it'll be ready for Spring 09. Whether Sony will want to release it at that time remains to be seen because they've already got some major games coming in the Fall of 08 and early 09 and they may not want to infringe on those sales.

Remember, all 3 GoW games have been released during the Spring line-up, expect the same for GoWIII.

If they're only showing a CGI teaser, don't expect this anytime within the next year.

And if so, pray. Because it won't be any good with that short a development cycle.

If they tap the power of the PS3, this game is going to be smoking hot awesome. Can't wait!

It won't be March of 09. That is right around the time that they are going to be pushing InFamous and they aren't going to want two big exclusives at the same time. Otherwise we would probably be getting KZ2 in September along with R2.

God of War 3 in 2010 at the earliest.

If its out in 2009 its "more of the same"..if its 2010 it'll have a chance at being as as good as 2 was to 1 (with the colossus battle levels, etc, etc).

GoW2 shoulda been a PS3 game.

It definitely would have benefited from a longer development cycle. I felt pretty let down by it.

My guess is it'll be the main title for Christmas 2009.

Yes the first two (and PSP's GoW:CoO) came out in March, but more important than keeping the pattern I think Sony would rather position the game this time during a more vital sales season.

A few things make it tougher to come out in March, 2009... it takes much longer to build next gen games from scratch, particularly on the PS3 as we know. GoW came just after the PS2's midlife, and as great as GoW 2 was on the system, the developers had at that point five+ years of practice on the system to know its tricks to make the game shine.

Not only is GoW 3 probably the first PS3 title for many on the team (GoW 2 came out after the PS3 was released), it is also not being helmed by two of the lead designers from the first two (David Jaffe and Cory Balrog). They both went on to make their own 2nd and 3rd party companies.

Fortunately both of those guys contributed to the story arc and early design planning of GoW 3, so there shouldn't be a major departure from the feel of the next sequel. However that still means that I doubt it comes out by March 2009, and I hope Christmas 2009 is the earliest (with March 2010 being the latest).

on that note, can't wait for ESP's TM:PS3 :)

Yeah, that's another potential mega-hit that wasn't mentioned at the show. All in all, too many good games are coming over the next few years.

Yup, there goes my bank account and social life. Anyone know where those hot gamer GF's are located, I'll need to pick one up, or something else is gone too.

Nah, you're better off marrying a non-gamer girl. Someone has to pay the bills, raise the kids, etc. while you play mindless videogames ;).

Apparently GameSpot has seen the game behind closed doors and say in a podcast (http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-news/3452.html) that GoW3 comes close to visually matching the CG trailer:

If you haven't had the chance yet, we suggest taking the time to check it out before continuing with this news update. Go watch the God of War III debut trailer that was shown to the world for the first time during Sony's E3 press conference. ...done watching? Okay, now while it's obviously not gameplay, recent evidence says it ain't far off.

According to GameSpot's latest HotSpot podcast, SCEA's upcoming action extravaganza is lookin' pretty damn good. So good, in fact, that "the level of realism as far as the graphics go" appears "very close" to what we see in this CG trailer. This is taken from a number of inside sources, and it's even said that GoWIII actually looks a lot like "Beowulf," the CGI blockbuster movie from last year. Now, we don't know about you, but we find this news to be awfully encouraging. Of course, we've heard similar hype before, although we'd like to think this information comes from fairly reliable sources, even if we can't confirm them ourselves. There's certainly no doubt that God of War has pushed the visual envelope with every installment, be it on the PS2 or PSP, but now it's time to push the envelope on a much more advanced machine. It's our opinion that SCEA Santa Monica is up to the challenge, but only time will tell...

By the way, God of War III still holds an early March release date according to GameStop, but it may just be a placeholder date that doesn't mean anything. As far as Sony is concerned, it's still officially "TBA." We'll bring you more GoWIII news as soon as it becomes available.

I'm thinking it won't see release until 2010. Oh well, as long as I get RE:5, FFXIII and Killzone 2 I'm pretty set for '09.

I love cooking, so no worry there. Cleaning, now there's a problem.
