I was not sure where to post this. We don't have an upconverter deal here than I can see. I know alot of people like this player.

Woot.com has the oppo 981 on sales for $99+$5 shipping. It is a one day site so it is only good until 7/16 midnight or until it sells out.

Probably belongs in the regular DVD forum, but the funny thing is for 90% of consumers (at least in their minds) that is an HD player...and yes it does compete directly with HDM.

From my experience and friends who own blu-ray players, we can all tell the difference between UPCONVERTED SD DVD and HDM.
Even Black Xmas, a horrible movie looks better than UPCONVERTED SD DVD.
If lack of color and detail is not important, than upconvert may work for some but once you get use to blu-ray, for most it's hard to watch SD DVD's even on the best up upconverter when you compare the same title on blu-ray or even HD DVD.

Depends on your player. On my 94" screen and my Onkyo HD805, SD still looks very good. Not as good as my BD and HD DVDs, but still pretty good and much better than most HDM players can produce.

I had an A3 and have found my Purple HTPC and Onkyo HD805 really upconvert much better. If you read reviews, most Bluray players are not the best SD upscalers. That is one of the reasons that I went the HTPC route for BD..... and it was cheaper.
