My friend is looking to buy a receiver. He just bought a 5.1 Polk system and has a PS3 and nice 1080p TV.

Around this time last year I bought the Yamaha RX-V661. I recommended that to him, but I'm sure there are alot more receivers out now that pair with the PS3 very well.

Any recommendations? He's spent alot so I'm trying to find the best deal on this for him.

Thanks a ton!

You are right, there are many to choose from but the Yamaha 661 is still a great choice... that the one I chose a couple months ago.

+1 on the Yamaha's. You dont necessarily need a receiver with the newer audio codecs since the PS3 will send them LPCM. I have a Yamaha RX-V2700 and man I freakin love that thing. You could probably get one dirt cheap now.

I have the Yammy 663 (I assume the newer model of the 661) that I picked up from an AVS Forum sponsor back in May for under $400 and it works great with the PS3 (through HDMI). The 663 can decode pretty much any audio including DTS-MA, but, of course, you don't really need that since the PS3 does it for you. Yamaha makes some great receivers!

Thanks for the advice guys. He needs it mainly because he got new speakers and needs to hook them up.

You can find some nice deals on Onkyos and Marantz at www.accessories4less.com. I love my basic Marantz SR4001.
