I have been thinking about this idea and wanted your input as to why it hasn't been implemented.

Imagine a content hosting company that sells you a small media player box.
then the company will provision that box to you and give you online login info so you can check your content online through any computer.

You browse content on TV screen and click buy on any movie, then that movie is yours and it will show up when you login to your account online. (no physical media, they are the provider)

How about existing DVDs you have, well , the company will take your DVD's and add it to your collection (so you won't have to buy). If you have special DVD's , they will rip it and host it for you for a fee and keep your DVD.

You take the box anywhere, you get to watch your content from your friends house.

Almost like a myspace account, but now you can login and see your collection online, create custom movie lists, most watched , etc.

Is internet the bottleneck for this idea?
