From reading these forums, I know that the digital display on my RX-V663 won't show TrueHD or DTS-MA when the PS3 is the source because I have to use PCM. However, when I play Super Stardust HD, which I know uses regular DTS, nothing shows up in the display either. Should it be showing some kind of icon for normal DTS or Dolby Digital or will no icons ever show when using Linear PCM through HDMI? Thanks for any help.
P.S. The receiver display shows "Straight" and that is all.
No icons will ever show when using linear PCM through HDMI. I'm not entirely sure how the games work, I think unless there is an option to switch from LPCM to Bitstream in the game menu, you'll just have to use LPCM. Movies on the other hand, if you play a Dolby Digital or DTS movie, hit triangle and enter the AV options and switch from LPCM to Bitstream output and you'll notice those lights on your receiver come on.

"Straight" means that the receiver is not using any of its built in decoders to translate the audio. In this case, the source,or PS3, is doing the decoding. You are getting your 5.1 or HD track but the receiver is just letting it pass through "straight" from the source.
If you want to let the receiver do the decoding so you can see the actual label of DD or DTS (for non-HD content), you can hit the surround decode button on the remote and the receiver should change to say something like "PCM: Dolby Digital" or "PCM: DTS". If you have additional speakers setup above a 5.1 system, you can turn them on in the setup screen of your receiver (don't forget to save using protection). When using the surround decode option now, it would say something like "PCM:Dolby Digital ES" which means it is matrizing the 5.1 sound to your additional 1 or 2 speakers.
I have the 663 and usually just leave it on straight but have had no issues (non-Blu-ray)changing it to surround decode to see the receiver do the decoding.
Give it a try and let me know if hitting the surround decode button (right side near the botton) works.

SSD:HD does use DTS when using optical, but you get PCM when using HDMI for audio, at least that's how it works on my system. I have yet to find a way to change games from PCM to bitstream like you can with DVD's.

Thanks for the help guys.
mpkelley20: I will try surround decode today and let you know how it works out. Thanks!
