Is anyone using an "older" Power Mac G3/G4/G5 tower as a DVArchive server for their associated ReplayTVs?

If so, I'm curious on your setup and how things are working for you?

TIA :D

I used to use a G4 cube (400mhz) that I had upgraded to a 120GB HDD. That was a few years ago, but I remember it worked fine running DVA to serve shows to the replay. Just the usual advice - 1) use static ip's and make sure you have DHCP disabled on your network, and 2) make sure you have the correct verion of java on the Mac.

Why disable DHCP when I can reserve a specific IP address based on a MAC address?

It's not just as simple as getting static IPs for your nodes. There is a long standing issue with having the replay and a DVA box on the network with a DHCP server. You can read more about it on the DVA forums.

Can't you just set up static assignments in the DHCP server? For most things, I don't see the benefits of not using DHCP. In our house we are using 20+ IP addresses. I realize that it is very important to have a static address on my xserve, but why would I want to deal with that on my blu-ray player or the Nintendo Wii, or when my brother comes over and wants to jump on my WiFi?

Trust me, LEAVE DHCP ON, just set static assignments. This means that every time that device gets onto the network, you will always get the same ip address. All of the advantages of a static address with out the hassles of managing it.

Granted, I am not familiar with DVArchive, but I would be shocked that static dhcp assignments would break things.
