Newbie here...
I am in the market for a 1080p projector around $5k and am wondering whether or not the price increase from a Sony VW-60 to say, a JVC-RS1 or RS2 is worth it.
Are there any significant differences between the picture quality and/or reliability of the JVC projectors as opposed to the Sony VW60?
We are probably going to go with a 96-103" Stewart Firehawk screen
The room is dedicated 19x19 room without any windows or anything, so its completely light controlled.
Thanks in advance for any comments and suggestions regarding this issue.
Others will chime in, but you can get started with some comparisons at projectorreviews.com

I own both the Sony 60 and the RS1x and to me the JVC has better picture quality.Slightly better sharpness, slightly brighter and slightly better contrast. The difference is noticeable .The Sony has more features and is slightly quieter. Both are great projectors and you would be very happy with either.Hope this helps. With Sony's new pricing structure on the VW60 (fixed price at MSRP), there is no longer a price benefit going with a VW60 over an RS1.
As far as which is better, it depends. :)
The VW60 is more tweakable. If you're someone who wants to have your PJ calibrated to ISF standards, it would win out over an RS1. The RS1 does not have any built-in Color Management, so you either get what you get, or have to purchase an outboard video processor that will take care of this (Lumagen Radiance XD, etc.). The RS1 color is somewhat oversaturated, as noted in many other posts. Some folks prefer this look, while others prefer the calibrated look. Personal preference on this one.
The RS1 is maybe 20% brighter, and does not use a dynamic iris. While both are very good, the RS1 will win the battle for best contrast. It also has a more flexible throw range at 1.4x to 2.8x (vs. 1.4x to 2.4x), and greater lens shift capability at 30% screen height (vs. 15%). The installation flexibility may or may not make any difference in your situation.
Like most things in life, there are trade-offs either way. The good news is that I can't imagine you not being very happy with either one. :)

Mark,
Are you saying you guys can't discount off of MSRP now on the Sony?
PM if neccessary.
