I have connect both HDMI and Optical to my Denon 3808 with no luck of receiving Dolby Digital from the HD programs that are being broad casted in Dolby Digital. I cant git this thing to give me anything but L/R audio. I have gone threw all the Denon settings and weeded that device out. Is there any other setting on the VIP 1216 that will allow me to access some kind of audio setting. Maybe Dolby 5.1 is just turner off? I could only find the "alternative audio setting" in the options menu. That is even labeled wrong as far as I am concerned because it alternative languages not audio. Any help would be great.
Thanks

Ok ... so i figured it out. when a HDMI is plugged into the 1216 it disables the DD 5.1 surround decoding and only gives you stereo. When I plugged in a RGB and and optical with no HDMI, everything seemed to work perfectly. It looks as the 1216 receiver is not currently capable of outputting DD over a optical or the HDMI when a HDMI is plugged in. The DD out put is only active if you use a RGB cable for your video.
Hm, that sucks. The wife and I are thinking about going with MTS HD, here in Winnipeg, and the VIP 1216 PVR is what you get with it. I may change my mind if you can't get optical 5.1 in conjunction with HDMI. Is this still the case, or has their been a patch to fix it?

I found that I can often get 5.1 started by pressing the 30-second skip button on the VIP1216 remote control.
MTS Techs confirm it as a known problem, which will be fixed by an update soon.
Reading the ATT UVerse forum, they have the fix now.
