Dave Mack 07-24-08, 03:27 AM sweet Paul Cordingley 07-24-08, 04:06 AM That's funny Dave - I read the first post, said "Sweet" out loud, then read your post :) How's about "fantastic!" Nope, doesn't have the same ring ... Schils 07-24-08, 04:55 AM Young Frankenstein = ALRIGHT, finally!!!! A must buy for me, love it!!!:):) Dennis M 07-24-08, 07:12 AM Now we're talking! I'm going to be so.... broke come Sept & October. :D Stevie76 07-24-08, 07:39 AM Holy CRAP!! :) This fall is going to be INSANE!!!! :) Bob Black 07-24-08, 08:46 AM Young Frankenstein is just about my favorite comedy of ALL-TIME! Where's the link to this news? I don't want to get too excited without something official... JBlacklow 07-24-08, 09:04 AM Young Frankenstein is just about my favorite comedy of ALL-TIME! Where's the link to this news? I don't want to get too excited without something official...I don't know how official it is, but it's been listed at DVD Empire: http://www.dvdempire.com/Exec/v4_item.asp?userid=99366338074636&item_id=1417999 This news makes me so happy I may have peed a little. ;) Adam_ME 07-24-08, 11:24 AM Young Frankenstein = ALRIGHT, finally!!!! A must buy for me, love it!!!:):) That's "Fronkensteen".:D Malcolm_B 07-24-08, 11:56 AM All three... SOLD! RDarrylR 07-24-08, 11:57 AM Good news! I would likely pick up Carrie and Amityville. Schils 07-24-08, 12:26 PM That's "Fronkensteen".:D Hehehe. This movie is so good, it should be listed in the thread title with the others (of the three, it's the only one I'm actually interested in buying)! This was Wilder at his finest, and the scene when Peter Boyle (RIP) roams the countryside is great (like the sea-saw & little girl, the visit with a younger Hackman, etc, lol). :) Damnationdoormat 07-24-08, 12:53 PM I'll grab Young Frakenstein, though even as a died-in the-wool Horror fan, I've never cared much for the Amityville series (talk about wholesale exploitation of a REAL TRAGEDY) or De Palma's Carrie (thought the 2002 TV version with Angela Bettis was better). http://www.amityvillemurders.com/ Malcolm_B 07-24-08, 01:00 PM Hell, the end of Carrie always makes me jump... and I KNOW it's coming! Every. Dang. Time! Heh. toxic_avenger 07-24-08, 01:04 PM I'm all for more horror movies on BR. I didn't like Carrie but I'll rent Amityville since I haven't seen it in a while. I'll definitely buy Young Frankenstein though it's a classic. BerserkerTails 07-24-08, 01:58 PM Young Frankenstein and Carrie for sure. De Palma turns my crank in exactly the right way, especially his older stuff. Haven't seen the original Amityville Horror in a while, so I'll probably wait for a good sale before getting that one. cnikirk 07-24-08, 07:18 PM I'm hoping for a really nice transfer of Young Frankenstein. Anything less would be a tragedy. I would like to pick up all three films. Dizzyboy 08-16-08, 08:19 PM This is outrageous! I`m thrilled that these films are coming out on Blu and I was ready to pre-order both, but this is really a slap in the face. If these were bargain priced that would be one thing, but to charge Criterion style pricing for bare-bones releases of titles that both recently had tons of stellar bonus features produced around, is really unacceptable to me. So, I get to pay $40 and still have to keep my SD discs of both titles if I want to have the extras. NO WAY. If I buy either at all, it will be used, and the studio wont be seeing a dime from it. Just for context, I`ve got a very large collection of Blu discs and almost all were purchased new. Not this time. Dave Mack 08-16-08, 08:21 PM Yep. And originally there were supposed to be bonus features. Gee, do you think MGM/Fox EVER wants Blu to go mainstream?!?!?!? Malcolm_B 08-16-08, 08:28 PM I'm not into extras whatsoever, but charging that sort of price for barebones release of these movies really makes me think twice about buying. Even discounted, we're talking around $30! Sheesh! Tom Monahan 08-16-08, 08:46 PM On top of it, they will probably be mediocre transfers at best. I'll wait a few months and buy on ebay. paku 08-16-08, 08:48 PM It really is an ugly practice. I don't care much about extras either and would probably pay that price for a barebones release of a classic film I really wanted, but only if it was from a new, pristine and proper restoration. Otherwise it's just a rip-off. Brad Ley 08-16-08, 09:01 PM And each is only going to be a BD25... Oh wait, I think people only complain about that when Warner Brothers does it. Sorry. :o Bob Black 08-16-08, 09:10 PM Fox blows. petergaryr 08-16-08, 09:19 PM Pass. mpalmieri1203 08-16-08, 09:46 PM Just pretend they were never released then in 2 years by them in the $5 bin at Wal-Mart. GizmoDVD 08-16-08, 10:04 PM Both MPEG2 as well - just like Dude, Wheres My Car. These were those announced titles at CES 2007 that Fox forgot about when they went MIA from Blu-ray later that year. Recycled old encodes with no special features. Kram Sacul 08-16-08, 10:25 PM Just pretend they were never released then in 2 years by them in the $5 bin at Wal-Mart. Exactly. I bet Amityville Horror is going to be the same DNRed transfer shown on HDNet. The sequel looked better and the grain wasn't filtered out. Timothy Ramzyk 08-17-08, 12:01 PM This is too bad, how much would it have run them to shove those extras on, even if on a second DVD? It think you could snag the unwary buyer with a less than stellar transfer, but pulling all the extras off is just stupid marketing. All one has to do is read the box to find out they're getting screwed. Johnsteph10 08-17-08, 12:17 PM Welcome to BD. :( wmaangel 08-17-08, 01:08 PM Both MPEG2 as well - just like Dude, Wheres My Car. These were those announced titles at CES 2007 that Fox forgot about when they went MIA from Blu-ray later that year. Recycled old encodes with no special features. It amazes me that Fox doesn't man up and go back to re-encode these titles and add the missing extra features if they want to compete in the current high-def landscape...these discs may have been tolerated in '07, but not now.... Look at Universal and Paramount...they were on the "losing end" of the format war, yet they have mostly done right by consumers by making their Blu-ray releases improved with new encodes, better/lossless soundtracks, and adding back special features (with just a couple exceptions....I'm looking at you, End Of Days!)... Fox did this earlier this year with Predator and Commando too....it's a shame really, if they had just scrapped their previous work and gone back to do AVC encodes and keep the DVD bonus features, I would have bought them both....instead I'll keep holding onto the SE DVDs until the eventual double-dip.... GizmoDVD 08-17-08, 01:28 PM Look at Universal and Paramount...they were on the "losing end" of the format war, yet they have mostly done right by consumers by making their Blu-ray releases improved with new encodes, better/lossless soundtracks, and adding back special features (with just a couple exceptions....I'm looking at you, End Of Days!)... Keep in mind U-571 has scrapped all the previous special features as well (well, they are incorporated into the U-Control, but still) Dude Wheres my Car suffered the same Fox MPEG2 fate as well. wmaangel 08-17-08, 07:57 PM Keep in mind U-571 has scrapped all the previous special features as well (well, they are incorporated into the U-Control, but still) At least they are on there in some form....I really don't know how they dropped the ball on End Of Days, I mean, the bonus features really couldn't have taken up but maybe 1 GB total, I am sure they could have found the room, sheesh....I'm just glad the HD DVD release already had a lossless track... Dude Wheres my Car suffered the same Fox MPEG2 fate as well. Do you happen to know if they at least kept all the special features from the original DVD release? While MPEG-2 would obviously be the less desired codec, it doesn't necessarily always mean the disc will not look good....the bigger sin in my eyes is when this less efficient compression method is used and then they have to cut stuff (like special features) since they don't have the extra room they would have had if AVC or VC-1 had been used instead... MSmith83 10-03-08, 09:35 AM It looks like Fox has done the right thing with Young Frankenstein. The image grabs at DVDbeaver (http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDCompare8/youngfrankenstein.htm) look very promising. GizmoDVD 10-03-08, 10:57 AM Still waiting for all my Fox review copies...hopefully with DVDBeaver posting images it means they will show up today... Ripper64 10-04-08, 12:13 AM I seen Young Frankenstein at Wal-Mart here in Canada today. I never picked it up but I might tomorrow. It was something like $28.99 Canadian. Thats part of the reason I didn't grab it. Dave Mack 10-04-08, 01:01 AM It looks like Fox has done the right thing with Young Frankenstein. Just shot the load! :) vancouver 10-04-08, 09:11 AM I am surprised people are surprised. BD is DVD all over again. They will start with bare bones releases so they have a reason to re-release it. THEY DO THIS ON PURPOSE. Ralph Potts 10-04-08, 09:54 AM Greetings, Still waiting for all my Fox review copies...hopefully with DVDBeaver posting images it means they will show up today... I contacted Fox Thursday and they said that they were late in getting review copies out but they expected them to go out no later than Friday. I have not gotten them yet either but hope to see them Monday.. Cheers, MSmith83 10-04-08, 10:38 AM Isolated score on Young Frankenstein! Just shot the load! :) Yup.
