Great news for Harryhausen fans. Here's to hoping that they release separate discs for those that already own "20 Million Miles to Earth".
They will, of course, release these separately as well, so that those of us who already have 20.000.000 won't have to buy it again. They better!!!!
dougotte 07-24-08, 04:23 PM Nice! Depending on the price, it might still be better to buy the box and sell the 20 Million on Amazon.

petergaryr 07-24-08, 06:55 PM 3 of my favorites from my youth. Now...how about 7th Voyage of Sinbad?
cnikirk 07-24-08, 07:04 PM Excellent news!
Wait a big minute, they didn't include Jason & The Argonauts? I would be all over this just for that one alone. To me that is his masterpiece. How could they not include it. Good news but dissapointing also.
JBlacklow 07-25-08, 10:13 AM Perhaps they need to do restoration on some of the other titles. Perhaps I'm just a glass is half-full type of guy, but I'd like to think that this is just the first set in a series.
ti-triodes 07-25-08, 07:00 PM Where did I put that credit card?;)
RalphoR 07-25-08, 09:16 PM Great news! I'm thinking the second wave of Harryhausen blu-rays from Sony/Columbia will be Jason and the Argonauts, The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, The Golden Voyage of Sinbad, and Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger. I'm not sure where to put Mysterious Island and The Three Worlds of Gulliver (which are also Sony/Columbia). I think Fox owns One Million Years, B.C. and Warner has Clash of the Titans, The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms, and my favorite (don't ask me why): The Valley of Gwangi. Here's hoping the rest will make it to blu-ray in 2009.

I'd get them all if available. As for Gwangi, what's not to love about cowboys fighting a dinosaur?
Earth vs the Flying Saucers:cool:
There had better be more, like The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms
Rachael Bellomy 07-26-08, 07:03 PM It seems like they're starting out doing the shortest, least expensive to put out films out of Harry's lot.
"people of earth attention", this is a voice speaking to you from thousands of miles away in Hollywood.... ;)
Tes7769 07-27-08, 06:20 AM Definitely good news. The only reason i've held off buying 20 Million Miles to Earth was out of sheer forgetfullness when picking up other new Blue-Ray flicks.
Since this set will be a "must buy" for me, i'll ikely preorder it so i don't have to worry about finding it for a decent price in a retail store after it's released.
I'd rather have seen a Jason and the Argonauts/Sinbad BlueRay set but hopefully they're planning one for a later date.

You made my day. Seriously.
As a kid, I sat through that one twice at the movies. I've owned it on virtually every media. I hope they do a "restored" version. That one has some of RH's best animation.
JBlacklow 07-29-08, 09:16 AM DVD Empire is now showing an October 7 date, which puts the collection the same day as "7th Voyage".
ETA: The official press release confirms all of them are coming October 7 and that the collection actually includes all 4 titles:
Check it out:Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release some of the most popular film classics from stop-motion animation genius Ray Harryhausen in a Ray Harryhausen Collectible DVD Gift Set and a The 7th Voyage of Sinbad: 50th Anniversary Edition DVD on October 7, just in time for holiday gift-giving. The six-disc DVD boxed gift set features two-disc special editions of It Came From Beneath the Sea, Earth vs. The Flying Saucers, and 20 Million Miles to Earth: 50th Anniversary Edition. Each film is available in a brilliant colorized version, in addition to the pristine, digitally-restored black & white original version, and viewers are able to toggle between the two as they please. Also included in the gift set is a collectible Ymir figurine based on Ray Harryhausen’s original 1957 hand-crafted design and signed by Ray Harryhausen himself. The Ray Harryhausen Collectible DVD Gift Set will sell for $80.95 SRP.
The collection is also being released day and date, in a Blu-ray™ High-Definition Disc four-pack including It Came From Beneath the Sea, Earth vs. The Flying Saucers, 20 Million Miles to Earth: 50th Anniversary Edition, and The 7th Voyage of Sinbad: 50th Anniversary Edition in bold bright color for $107.95 SRP.
With the cutting-edge high-definition colorization technology developed and patented by industry leader Legend Films, Harryhausen has been able to visually recreate his black and white films. Harryhausen said, “I am thrilled these films are finally being seen in color. I had wanted to do them in color in the 1950s, but the budgets were not large enough to accommodate that luxury. Now, thanks to the marvelous advances made in the colorization process by San Diego’s Legend Films and others, audiences will be able to see the movies as I originally intended.”
The 7th Voyage of Sinbad: 50th Anniversary Edition, also available on October 7, arrives on a single-disc DVD and Blu-ray™ High-Def disc, both loaded with special features including audio commentary by Ray Harryhausen, visual effects experts Phil Tippett and Randall William Cook, author Steven Smith and producer Arnold Kunert; a documentary; six featurettes, and more. The 7th Voyage of Sinbad: 50th Anniversary Edition will sell for $19.94 SRP, while the Blu-ray™ High-Def release will sell for $28.95 SRP.
Though special effects techniques today have been dramatically transformed by CGI, Ray Harryhausen’s highly imaginative and incredibly detailed work continues to hold audiences spellbound. A disciple of stop-motion pioneer Willis O’Brien (King Kong), Harryhausen adapted O’Brien’s techniques. Harryhausen developed and created his own genre of film from the 1950s to the 1980s utilizing this stop-motion process (eventually identified as “Dynamation”). His memorable films include The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (1953), It Came from Beneath the Sea (1955), The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958), Jason and the Argonauts (1963), One Million Years, B.C. (1966), The Valley of Gwangi (1969), The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1974), and Clash of the Titans (1981). Harryhausen’s amazing body of work continues to inspire many of today’s special effects wizards.

'specially 'jason and the argonauts'!
AUS1969 08-18-08, 09:42 PM Wait, Damnit. I already have 20 Million Miles. I want 20,000 Fathoms.
It is a shame they are putting 20 Million Miles in the set. Now I have to decide if I want to sell my copy and buy the set, or sit and wait to see if they come out separately.
petergaryr 08-18-08, 10:47 PM Unbelievably good news.

...same boat as ya'all....
I'm getting tired of all these super-sized sets without without the individual films available. I'm leaning towards the waiting. At this point in this format I have enough films to keep me occupied till I can get things my way.
"feed me, feed me" .....but in bite sized chunks.
