View Full Version : Experience with Amazon?
jersey2650 07-24-08, 10:56 PM For those who have purchased your plasma from Amazon, how was your experience, including with the delivery?
What is their return policy on plasmas?
Are the service plans they offer worth it?
metallicaband 07-24-08, 11:05 PM I don't presonally have any experience with ordering plasmas from Amazon, but I've heard mixed reviews about them, some say that they got very poor service and went through hell when they tried to contact Amazon, but on the other hand, I've heard from some that they got their TVs in great condition and didn't have any problem contacting Amazon..
Anyway, maybe consider buying from a sponsor ? My friend and I recently received 2 Pioneer 5020FDs from Roman (Buybestplasma.com) in excellent condition even though it was a very long international shipment (USA to Bahrain).
creemail 07-24-08, 11:11 PM Amazon has built up a good reputation. Most people have good experiences with them. One thing to look out for is to ensure that you buy from Amazon, as they have paid sponsors on their website. It can get confusing if you don't know what you are doing during check out.
Their return policy is very good. They usually honor returns within 30-days.
What display are you looking for?

jersey2650 07-24-08, 11:59 PM Pioneer 5020 or Panasonic PZ800U. Still undecided.

Let me preempt creemail's next posting. Check out the forum sponsors. They have excellent prices and service. Look at MountAVision, Buybestplasma, Value Electronics and Cleveland Plasma. They all have many happy customers with great prices and exceptional service.
chadmak09 07-25-08, 12:40 AM I would never recommend Amazon.
My experience with Amazon was horrible and I would never buy from them again.
Got 2 dead 6010's in a row, both times only one delivery guy showed up instead of the two they promised, and everytime I called them I had to talk to someone in India who read all thier responses from a monitor. they send american jobs over to India to save thierselves money, but the customer ends up paying. Why not buy from a forum sponsor? You will probably get a better deal and will be giving your buisness to a "Down home" store where a handshake and a guarantee really mean something.
I like to be dealt with like a person and not an order number. And with Amazon, all you are is a number.
I have bought 2 Flat panels (PDP-6020FD & PRO-151FD) from Robert@**************** and the experience was far far far better than my experience with Amazon. And if I have problems or something I know Robert will be there on my side. you just can't beat that.
Buy from a forum sponsor.

pelkofer 07-25-08, 01:55 AM I got my 50" Panasonic 800U from Amazon last weekend and everything went exactly as promised. They sent 2 guys, who showed up on time, and helped me check out my TV. The TV is in great condition. There was no need to call Amazon on this transaction, so I can't report on that. I have called Amazon customer service on other (non-TV) items and have never had a bad experience.
I bought from Amazon because they have earned my trust over the past several years. Their price was slightly higher than what I found advertised on the forum sponsor websites. But, for me, it was worth it to deal with a company that had already earned my trust.
Just make sure it shipped and sold by Amazon. Bought 5080 last year and it worked out great. Sign up the credit card on the web site and get the point rewards (price x 3) if offered. More discussion on the returns from search.

What is your ideal budget?
Chris
jersey2650 07-25-08, 07:38 AM Ideally no more than 3 grand.

I believe the 50PZ800U (http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/panasonic-viera-th-50pz800u/4505-6482_7-32886472.html?tag=tpr) should work for you.

Probe 2C 07-25-08, 10:04 AM I bought my sammy from Amazon.
Zero complaints. Everything was smooth.
crashtjh 07-25-08, 10:05 AM I just recently bought and returned a Samsung LCD and then purchased the Samsung Plasma from them. Everything seems to have been fine (still working on completing the return). Two guys showed up both deliveries and set up the tv and made sure it turned on. So far, no complaints. Just had to pay shipping for the return by the way.
DavidR44 07-25-08, 10:37 AM I bought my Samsung plasma PN42A450 from Amazon, and I had great service. I waited a week to get my new TV, and I received a phone call from CEVA Logistics on a Thursday night for a 8 am to 12 pm delivery time slot. Two guys showed up around 8:20 am, and they were very helpful by unpacking the TV and putting it on my entertainment center. One of them asked me to connect my coax cable from my cable box to make sure the TV works, and I was quite surprised on the color when I did that.
I do not have any complaints against Amazon,

Ditto. Delivery was on time, and this particular model comes with free white glove service; they came inside, unpacked it, built the stand, and plugged everything in.
Note that delivery for big items like TVs is arranged through local companies, so delivery issues are not really problems with Amazon itself.
I have not had problems dealing with returns/exchanges from Amazon previously, but I have also not tried to return/exchange a TV with them. YMMV, but they have a pretty good reputation.
You should pay attention to whether you are buying a TV from "Amazon" itself, or from another seller -- they are not always really clear about this, and frequently you can choose either. If you don't buy it direct from Amazon, you deal with the seller if there is a problem, and they can vary widely in quality.

I probably would have bought from a forum sponsor, but Amazon had a competitive price AND an incredible financing deal.
