Hi,

I will buy a Plasma TV in few days and i have some questions:

I will use for
- Sports (Football)
- XBOX 360
- Movies (Not Blu Ray)

I'm Concern by:

- Image Quality
- Dead pixels
- Warranty

1)The new LG 42PG20 and LG 42PG25 have a great image quality but somebody said to me, in 42 inches the Panasonic TH-42PX80 is the best choice (in the 900$-1200$ price range)?

2)Also i want to know if for 200$ additional i will buy a LG 50PG20 or the Panasonic TH-42PX80 is always the best choice?

3)Do you know if as great difference between LG 50PG20 and LG 50PG25?

Thanks!

Chris

When I was shopping I was impressed by the LG in store. I ended up going with the 50PX80U and couldn't be happier.

I would go with a 50. You panny can be had for insanely low prices if you look around a bit.

But i don't the $$$ for the TH-50PX80 (1699$).

Or this is my choices:

1) Panasonic TH-42PX80 (1099$)
OR
2) LG 50PG25 (1299$)
OR
3) LG 50PG20 (1199$)

What the best choice??? Size vs Quality...

Thanks!

I'd stick with the panasonic or Samsung. You might have the cash for the 50PX80U if you buy online. LG are alright but there are better units out there.

I own both....4 year old Panasonic 37" ED, 2 year old LG 42" 720p and a 6 month old Panasonic 42" 1080p...and I recommend getting the Panny even though I haven't had any issues with the LG. I'm basing this on the fact that even though it is newer...the black levels on my LG aren't any better than my old Panasonic ED. Of course the latest sets could be better...but I still think that Panasonic is second to only Pioneer in this area.

Dude, you can get the 50PX80U for way less than that.

I believe the MSRP on the 50PX80U is $1499, i am pretty sure there was a drop last month.

I think you can get a 50PG60 for around the same price you could get a 50PX80 and I believe the PG60 to be far surperior to the PX80, it's much closer to the Panny PZ800 series.

You really need to try and check these displays out in person and decide for yourself.

Everyone's responses reflect personal experiences that may be completely different from yours and their advice, even if well meaning, could lead you in the completely wrong direction. Including mine:D

That said, here's my 2 cents. If you are one that is focused on blacks, the 2008 LGs have the lowest idle luminescence (0.0084) except for Kuros, and that represents about a 70% improvment from 2007, so an earlier reference to a 2006 LG isn't really applicable.

You might also like the frameless design of the PG60, the only other set that has it is the panny pz800, which is well outside your price target. If not, you might also consider the PG30, which sacrifices the frameless design but retains 1080p and is still superior, IMO, to the PX80.

At the viewing distance you described, I don't think you will be happy with the 42" when compared to a 50". There really is a huge difference.

I don't think you would go wrong with buying either Panny or LG sight unseen so long as your budget can handle the 50" price point. If you are considering dropping down to 42", then I'd strongly encourage you to view them in person because, IMHO, the PG60 is superior and PG20 is comparable and it would be a shame to sacrifice screen size w/o gaining quality.

IMO, I would NOT get any LG below the PG60 series. However, if that is not in your budget, I'd go with Panasonic x80 or the Samsung 550. Good luck.

Ive seen em all, and my preference would be Samsung. They look better to me than the Panasonic or LG. Just my personal preference tho. I have a pioneer pro-151fd!

good luck, Mike:)

Case-in-point for why it's always best to see a display for yourself.

To my and my wife's eyes, Samsung's have an unacceptably noisy picture. I was starting at a 650 and thinking that the PQ wasn't all that great and my wife walked next to me and asked, "What's with all the little speckles..." and pointed at the LCD Sammy getting the same signal, then said, "I want one that's clear like that..."

So, it was either find a better quality Plasma picture or be stuck with LCD...

Moral of the story... YMMV ... nothing beats your own eyes.

For using the display for gaming I would go with the Panasonic

You can get a Panny 50px80u for 1299 at BB. So, get the Panny, while the lgs have a come a long way, the Pannys are still better.

P.S. That sale ends on Saturday, so move quick :D
