Hello everyone! I have a bit of a problem that I was hoping I could get some help with. First of all, the problem is very similar to one that has already been discussed here, in fact it may be the same problem:

Basically, I have noticed that with many of my DVD Rips I am able to pick up a high frequency ringing like sound that is usually over the vocal sections of the video. With the help of the previously linked thread I learned about studios picking up on the nearby CRT noise. A noise I've always hated. The previously mentioned thread also had a couple people mention that there were some software solutions for this. Unfortunately, they didn't mention them by name. I'm wondering if anyone here can give me some help/details regarding possible remedies/solutions and maybe go in-depth on some of the software solutions.

Finally, I use the Combined Community Codec Pack for all my video/audio needs. I use Windows Media Player to watch the videos. I also watch my videos with a pretty good pair of headphones. I have found one way to correct the problem. The Combined Community Codec Pack comes with the FFDShow audio decoder. Within that is a FIR Filter tool. Using that I can set the lowpass frequency to a certain KHz and everything higher will be filtered out. I played with that for awhile and found that if I set it to 13,000 KHz then the ringing would get removed. While this is a decent problem solver, I know for some of these videos that I'm also removing sound that is meant to be there.

Sorry for the long post but any help/suggestions/ideas/anything would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :)

You could try to use a notch filter; that would be less destructive. I don't think there's any easy way to get rid of the noise once it's mixed in.
