The other day I suggested to a friend of mine that has a digital cinema projector that he go and see Journey To the center of the Earth 3d.

His response was that the system gave him a headache and the movie sucked.

I could not believe that the biggest thing since CINEMASCOPE to hit the theaters could indeed be so bad, so this afternoon I decided to do some sleuthing of my own.

When i first saw the movie i sat in the third row left, the experience was pretty good form a brightness point, but there was definitely hot spotting going on, the aspect ratio must have been 1.66 nearly filling a 1.85 silver screen. Due to the live action nature of the film when there is a lot of out of phase action covering most of the field of view, it can get a bit tiring, I noticed sitting close to the front and center left. Yet the movie was entertaining and was nowhere near uncomfortable.

The movie was packed so I could not pick my seat.

After watching the Dark Night I thought I would give JTTCOTE another look, this time I sat where normally it would be considered good seats.

As soon as the movie started the thing was UNWATCHABLE worse then RBE effects on the worst single chipper. A d- experience, I stood up and sat down in the fouth row center and KOWABUNGA! everything clicked into place, the brightness was phenomenal, very even, there were no annoying side and floor refelctions interfering with the glasses like seating in the middle did.

I realized that there were 3 factors that make the experience in the fourth row center of this Stadium seating theater an extraordinary experience, an A+.

The brightness

The ratio of direct light versus reflected light,

The field of vision ' vantage position to have the actors faces as the predominant image, thus improving the in-phase to out of phase ratio.

It is seldom that I find such a wide discrepancy in the quality of the projected
image just by changing seats.
