View Full Version : Futurama: Bender's Game: 11.4 bac 07-27-08, 02:24 PM Futurama's Blu-ray debut: http://www.thehdroom.com/news/Futurama_Soars_onto_Blu-ray_in_November/3165 Rated-rsuperstar 07-27-08, 03:05 PM They announced it, they can't unannounce it! I hope the bluray packaging is just as elaborate as the dvd packaging has been. phisch 07-27-08, 03:46 PM I like Futurama. I'll be buying this. Keen 07-27-08, 04:19 PM Here's hoping it's a proper blu-ray case, instead of the horrid cardboard boxes they've been using for the dvd releases. I don't care about my carbon footprint, dammit! seggers 07-27-08, 04:32 PM Sign me up for some of that..... Seggers sharkshark 07-27-08, 05:46 PM dammit, already bought the other two on DVD... This be Dungeons and Dragons themed, if you didn't know... (as per trailer on the last release and, well, the link above with the summary) vanilla rice 07-27-08, 05:58 PM i love Futurama, but so far the post-series releases have been a bit disappointing. though it has been improving. DaveFi 07-27-08, 06:51 PM I just hope it's better than The Beast with a Million Backs. One particular element of the storyline turned me off quite a bit. bunkaroo 07-28-08, 12:27 AM I just hope it's better than The Beast with a Million Backs. One particular element of the storyline turned me off quite a bit. I agree TBWABB was pretty bad. I love all the Futurama episodes, but so far the direct to video releases have been OK (Bender's Big Score) and terrible (TBWABB). I'll still buy this though. NoThru22 07-28-08, 08:52 AM I thought the Beast's main conceit was kind of overplayed, but the parts of it that didn't deal with that were just as good as anything else Futurama. Perhaps these movies don't work as well as the episodes because they admittedly aren't editing themselves for time like they used to. Or maybe we're just not used to the pace. It's ridiculous they didn't bring the first two out for simultaneous Blu-ray release since they first announced the movies as being produced in HD. Oh well, I love Futurama so much I'll be rebuying the first two movies in Blu-ray, dammit. mcallister 10-17-08, 06:40 PM coming up on this one. Looks like we get DTS-HD at least. Looking forward to this!!!:D Deviation 10-17-08, 11:42 PM I wonder if the Blu-ray releases will use similar lame eco-friendly "packaging". It's even infected releases for The Simpsons now. The case for the eleventh season seems designed specifically to scratch discs. ryoohki 10-18-08, 10:02 AM If you want a preview off how good it look just rent the Simpsons MOvie in Bluray and watch the Trailers. The Trailers for the first movie is in 1080p. Destroy the DVD eyes closed.. Jason One 10-18-08, 04:07 PM I wonder if the Blu-ray releases will use similar lame eco-friendly "packaging". It's even infected releases for The Simpsons now. The case for the eleventh season seems designed specifically to scratch discs. It looks like a normal plastic BD case in the pre-release artwork (http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Futurama-Bender's-Game/10314). tcwatkins 11-04-08, 09:05 PM Has anyone compared the BD and SD versions? Is the BD worth the premium? tsb 11-04-08, 11:38 PM Has anyone compared the BD and SD versions? Is the BD worth the premium? it always is unless some horrid DNR has occured :D vpn75 11-04-08, 11:40 PM Has anyone compared the BD and SD versions? Is the BD worth the premium? I just found out this was available on BD after I bought the DVD! I actually thought the first two movies looked very good upconverted on my HD-A2. I am curious to see how good the BD looks, but I'm not sure it is worth the $10 premium though. Deviation 11-05-08, 12:37 AM I love Futurama but I'm not sure that the complexity of the animation really warrants what would have been a $14 price premium for me. I went with the DVD to match with my six other Futurama DVDs. JerryElbow 11-05-08, 10:14 AM Has anyone compared the BD and SD versions? Is the BD worth the premium? The local stores are charging literally double the price for the BD vs. the SD version. It's just not worth it to me. I'm renting the BD version (c'mon, Netflix! Deliver it already!) and bought the SD version (gotta put my money where my mouth is and support the Futurama crew). Bossjon 11-05-08, 10:15 AM I watched the blu ray last night. The video was excellent. I could really see the difference when compared to the Beast with a Billion Backs. The audio, on the other hand could of used some work. It was by no means bad, but they could of done a better. I dont know if it was worth the extra $10, but I dont buy a Standard dvd when the blu is available. thomashton 11-05-08, 12:11 PM Bought the SD version too. It was a difference of an additional $12 here. When it doesn't line up with all my other other Futurama dvds, I can't transfer it to my Zune120 and keep a copy there with all the rest of my Futurama, and the PQ doesn't warrant the premium price, I just can't justify the cost. As for the content though, I thought this was the best of the three released so far. I really enjoyed it and lol'd several times. I however also enjoyed "Beast" more than I liked "Big Score" so take it for what it's worth. I just did not like the spammer aliens or the two musical numbers in Big Score. bull3964 11-05-08, 12:30 PM Bought the SD version too. It was a difference of an additional $12 here. I'm pretty much in the same place. I love animation in HD but the premium they want for this is criminal. So, I'll probably either buy it in SD or just not buy it at all and hope that the blu-ray gets marked down later. Exist2Inspire 11-05-08, 12:58 PM I ended up getting it at one of my local shops. $27.99 for the Blu, $25.99 for the SD. For only $2 more, I'm taking the blu. bull3964 11-05-08, 01:34 PM I ended up getting it at one of my local shops. $27.99 for the Blu, $25.99 for the SD. For only $2 more, I'm taking the blu. I do hope you realize that you didn't really get a deal on the blu-ray as so much as they were ripping you off for the SD. Best Buy, Circuit City, and Amazon (probably Target too, but I haven't been there to see) are selling the DVD right now for $17.99. Best buy is at $29.99 for the blu-ray and Amazon is at $27.95. DvST8 11-05-08, 07:53 PM Just a warning, this don't play on the current WinDVD 9 Plus. (DVD9.0.14.91_63207) I get a red screen that says "Your Blu-Ray Player requires an update in order to play this disc" there are no updates on Corel's site or in program update. Stuck with another Blu-ray I cant play. *not looking for help here, just warning others that might buy it. bull3964 11-05-08, 08:01 PM Just a warning, this don't play on the current WinDVD 9 Plus. I'm from Canada, so the standard price for the blu-ray is $34.99, so it was a pretty good savings in my eyes. vanilla rice 11-06-08, 03:21 AM I love Futurama but I'm not sure that the complexity of the animation really warrants complexity of the animation? did you see the Simpsons Movie in HD? or at least the trailer? poiv3 11-06-08, 10:04 AM Could somebody scan the disk with BDInfo and post the info about it. Thanks. Lazarus Dark 11-10-08, 11:13 PM Could somebody scan the disk with BDInfo and post the info about it. Thanks. Anydvd needs an update for the BD+ and it can't seem to connect to the server for the update. BDinfo says file format not supported or whatever. Will try again later. I freakin love Bender's Piracy Warning. I too considered getting the DVD, but hey, I paid 25 for each of the other two DVD's, so the couple dollar premium on Amazon was worth it to me. While perhaps not mind-blowing, the quality difference is still quite noticable. No regrets. Except, I generally keep my DVD and BD's seperate, so I don't know which shelf to put this on! (I know, I know... Life's tough ain't it...) I doubt I would double dip on the previous ones though if they released them on BD. Unless they had an upgrade rebate like with some other BD's, such that the total cost would not be more than $10 each. Even then, I wouldn't rush to double dip. I will however definately get the fourth release on BD, now that I see the quality is reasonably worth it. (I know, I know... Life's tough ain't it...)Not to be rude in any way but that's not speaking to a small price delta between DVD and Blu-ray but instead to you being ripped off on the DVDs. I haven't paid more than $17 apiece for the three Futurama discs released so far. DaveFi 11-11-08, 12:15 AM It's a FOX disc and Futurama besides, and while worth it I'll probably wait for the next FOX sale before I pick it up. NoThru22 11-12-08, 08:42 AM Watched the movie last night. By far the best of the three movies and it made a great transition to Blu-ray. Even the animation looked like they cut less corners on this one, especially compared to the second one. I freakin love Bender's Piracy Warning I told my friends "check this out, it'll be funny" and then it was funny for one second (the D.O. I.T. acryonym) and the rest really really wasn't. The next movie is written by Ken Keeler, who wrote "The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings" and looks great! awdpaul 11-12-08, 09:10 AM Definitely agree this is the best of the three so far. Maybe it just took the team a litlte while to get back in form. Would definitely recommend this one to any Futurama fans. In terms of a Bluray vs. DVD - this looks good, and it's noticeably better looking than the other two movies upscaled. The price is a little steep since Fox doesn't seem to like to discount their Blurays, but if you are willing to pay the price or can find a good deal, I think it was worth it. Just my opinion though. Kevin M. Dean 11-12-08, 02:57 PM You can get it for $20.89 in the Deep Discount 25% off sale which ends Nov. 23rd. sharkshark 01-25-09, 01:56 PM Rather than a whole new thread, I figured you guys would be the ones to care: http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/01/25/the-simpsons-finally-making-high-def-debut/ If you've been watching the last few seasons on a TV with Dot-for-Dot engaged, you can see even on 4:3 broadcasts that the sidebars do not go up to the top of the screen, showing backgrounds for the animation that fill the full 16:9. Clearly for the last while they're framing the show for both widescreen and 4:3, we'll see whether the releases at home for these seasons will be on BD. Mind you, we're about a decade back on the releases of this show, by the time that the current season is released we'll be using chips suck in our necks... |
