Hi Y'all,
I am an absolute beginner at this so here goes. I have just purchased an MG45. I have loaded some sample video on it by USB and it works fine. I have tried to connect to my computer via networking and have followed the instructions perfectly every time but still get the same errors coming up. Th error on my PC screen says " Windows System Error-There is an IP address conflict with another system on the network" The error shown on my TV screen when I select to view something in my PC says "No PC's found on network. If there is a shared PC on network please check the connection or IP address must be in same subnet"
My Pc tells me that the ethernet connection is okay so any help on this would be appreciated.

Hi,

I think your issue is more todo with networking than a actual problem with your MG-45.I suggest you have a read here , to get some basic network 101 info.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_network

Then , give me some detail on how you network is setup , and I will try my best to help you , as best I can.

What is your Operating system?
1)How is your MG connected to the network , ie via a router , direct to your computer , or via a hub?.
2)What type of Network cable are you using , "twisted" or "Stright thru"
3)Do you have your MG set to obtain a IP address in a dynamic or static manner?
4)Suggest you disable your firewall and any other "security" software until you have this up and running.

Regards

Teddy

Hi Teddy, Thanks heaps for your assistance.
Some answers to your questions are:
Operating system is Windows XP Home SP2
Not sure what you mean re twisted or straight through but I am connected by ethernet cable through LAN. I assume that the cable is working because when I power up the MG45 my PC shows that my LAN is connected.
I'm not sure what you mean about IP address in a dynamic or static manner or how to configure that on the MG45.
And finally, I will try again with my firewall and net security off while I'm waiting to here from you again.

David

Hi again,
I have tried setup again with firewalls off and still no success. I have noticed another message coming from my LAN icon. "LAN Connection Status" "Limited or no connectivity. You might not be able to access the internet or some network resources. This problem occurred because the network did not assign a network address to the computer"

Teddy asked you to describe your system(s) in detail and you have yet to do this. Say what equipment you have, obviously at least one pc and MG, but what else do you have (a router?) how precisely are your boxes connected? Describe everything in detail. You are showing insufficient knowledge of networking and the only way you are going to get help right now is to describe your setup in excruciating detail... Al

Hi, At this stage I am only trying to connect my PC to the MG45. I have them connected with a spare ethernet cable I had lying around as this product doesn't come with a cable I am not sure if it is the right one. I have been doing some research into cables and correct me if I'm wrong but it seems that I need a "crossover" cable and the cable I am using does not match the wiring diagram for either a straight or a crossover cable. I am not using a router just plain old ADSL modem and I assume because I am running Windows XP Home that I have built in network adapter.
Please be gentle with me guys, I know very little about this subject
Cheers

Thanks for a bit more info David. As per the manual , if you want to connect your MG DIRECT to a PC you need "crossover" or "twisted" CAT5 RJ45 network cable.I presume you are using the wrong type of cable here. Thus your MG caanot pull a IP address from your PC.

Regards,

Teddy

Thankyou my friend. I will purchase one today and let you know how I went on.
When you say you are British American does that mean you originated from the UK?
I am originally from Manchester, migrating to OZ as a child in 1954

I purchased a new cable and installed it. I assume the cable must be working as the P and MG45 can see each other with NDAS on. Same old messages come up when I try to access shared files on my PC MG45 message "No PC's found on network. If there are shared PC's on the network, check the network connection or the IP address (must be in the same subnet)" PC screen message reads "Windows System Error" There is an IP address conflict with another system on the network.
I'm ready to get the fire axe out.
HELP!!

Me again,
Forgot to tell you that my ISP told me that my IP address is "dynamic" for what that's worth.
