The family will love this one in HD. :)
Just watched my copy last night, well 20min of it (I was tired from from work, will watch the rest tonight) and would have to say you guys will be impressed. The PQ is absolutley beautiful and the SQ is perfect. There is good LFE in this movie not too much not too little perfect. I will be watching the rest tonight.
GREAT movie, my son loves it! The Blu-ray disc is spectacular! And the sound, (especially the orchestral score) is wonderfully recorded. My eagle eyed son spotted that the digital copy is merely called 'Horton'...

Looking forward to watch the rest tonight.
Finished watching it and enjoyed it. The PQ and SQ as stated before fantastic. There is also a little short film with SID from Ice Age takes the young ones Hiking. That is quite enjoyable also, pq and sq in that is also good.
Maestro J 11-02-08, 11:03 AM While I haven't seen the Blu-ray yet in its entirety, I was able to see the first 10 min of it as well as the Sid Short and I have to agree. It looked fantastic and sounded incredible. Certain buy for my household.
Yes, the Oz edition is outstanding.
Darth Indy 11-02-08, 04:24 PM How is the actual movie? Wife and I never got out to see it at the theaters but wanted to. We have a one year old daughter so we don't get out to the movies much anymore. This would be a blind buy for me so just wanted to see if its a good movie?

Saw this one kind of randomly this summer, and had little interest in it at the time. I thought it was a great movie and will be buying it on blu-ray with out a doubt when it comes out.

It is an enjoyable film to watch!
srw1000 12-13-08, 11:25 PM This movie looked and sounded fantastic. There was a small amount of pixelation during a chase scene through some bamboo, but it was only distracting for a moment.
The story was a mess, though. There was too much padding that felt like padding. Jim Carey was OK in the role, but it was played too much as an improvisational comic doing Horton. It could have been worse, they could have used Robin Williams.
I really wish they would consider putting together 3-4 Seuss stories into a single movie, instead of trying to stretch one very short movie into an hour and a half. There's just not enough material to fill an entire movie.
There were some nice nods to Seuss' other works, such as the breakfast featuring green eggs and ham. On the other hand, there was a scene in the movie that was almost a complete rip off of the Animusic shorts.
Another disappointment was that the Chuck Jones' animated Horton Hears a Who wasn't included as an extra. I don't even think it was mentioned in the extras. That was a more successful adaptation of the story, and was much more charming.

That would be because Warner Bros. holds the distribution rights to that, and this movie was put out by Fox. WB just released maybe beginning of this year the short on DVD, so I highly doubt Fox would be able to convince WB to allow them to put on this disc as an extra for free.
Shane Martin 12-14-08, 11:31 AM Excellent movie. Top shelf PQ. Audio quality is good too with thundering LFE. The LFE surprised me.
The SID short was a hoot.
This movie is proof Dr. Suess can be successfully adapted to the big screen; it's like the book literally comes to life. They should've given the same psuedo-3D treatment to the jumbled mess that was Cat In the Hat. Probably done by a different studio, though. BTW, everytime I see a TV ad for the Horton release, it never mentions BD availability.......?

It's too bad that they couldn't have done some kind of cross-promotional effort. Maybe include the Horton Hears a Who short, but mention that Jone's other Seuss shorts are also available separately.

Completely agree!
This is really hard to say, but I think this title just may be the best looking animation BD out there. With Wall-E & KungFu Panda out there it's tough, but I seriously think this one may be the best yet.
Darth Indy 12-30-08, 08:31 PM Ok, I'm thoroughly confused. All I've read is how good the transfer is on this and I also had high hopes since it was an animated movie. Wife and I watched it last night and while it did look good in most parts and excellent in some parts there were some scenes where there was some video noise type stuff appearing especially on fur. Alot of scenes were completely clean and showed nothing like this while alot did have it. It wouldn't be all over the scene but only on certain objects. For example, sometimes the kangaroos skin had it, hortons ears, when the mayor opens door to his house the doorway has it in pats, etc. It looks like grain is the best way to describe it even though I know its not that. There are scenes in Ice Age 2 that have it as well on the fur. I know its not my equipment because wall-E, Ratatouille, cars, Kung Fu Panda, etc. don't have this at all. I'm just stumped at what causes this on animated transfers.
Darth Indy 12-30-08, 08:33 PM In my thread that got locked here is what TheLion had to say:
It is there and I was asking myself the exact same question.
It seems to me that Blue Sky Animation doesn't offer "direct digital" transfers. The clarity and definition is also not even close to being "pixel perfect"/1:1 pixel mapping, which further supports this theory.
As always most/all "professional/public reviewers" didn't recognize/mention it in their reviews.
I watched this the other night and noticed the same thing, but only noticed it on Hortons ears. It was very noisy macroblocking or something. It stood out like a sore thumb. Other than that one part, thought it looked very good. And a great movie. I'm picking this one up.

I have to agree.

Cars is still the best IMO, but I could be wrong. All the Pixar movies look great but I was really surprised how good this one looks, it's just amazing and with the release of Kung Fu Panda Pixar have some real competiton now.
Anyone able to point me in the direction of a copy of the cover art (either orginal or custom)? Thanks, my copy from ebay has no case, no cover.

Noticed this too, and wondered why I hadn't heard anyone else comment. It was pretty distracting in a few scenes, but certainly not overly pervasive.
