dish network wants to charge me $120 for an HD receiver. i was looking at amazon and they have the Tivo HD for $250.

im not interested in recording shows and not interested in the monthly tivo fee either. is there an HD receiver out there that would suit me better?

holy cow at direct tv phone operators. i just called them to order another hd receiver.

the first one i called earlier today said $100 for the hd receiver plus $20 for the guy to come out and install it.

just now i called them again to order it (i got impatient), this operator told me $100 for the hd receiver, $20 for shipping and handling, and an extra $100 for them to have someone come out and install it.

anyone with direct tv experience want to offer their input? first operator correct, or the one i just called?

also i was told there would not be another $10 for hd signal with a second receiver on top of what im paying now.

suddenly buying the tivo hd option is looking much better.

Don't think you can use a Tivo HD on Dish network. You could use the new ViP recievers.

You can use the ViP612, ViP622 or the ViP722 as well. Even dish charges more for HD just like DirecTV.

The ViP211 is a good choice if you too don't want a DVR. They will need to install an HD dish if you don't have one in addition to your SD one.

Also look into this if you haven't bought your reciever yet. The ViP211 is discontinued and replaced with the ViP211K.

What service do you have? If you have Direct, the Dish VIP receivers won't work. As a matter of fact, nothing will work with Direct except Direct equipment. The same holds true for Dish. They make and sell their own gear which is proprietary. Tivo can be used on cable systems and FIOS.
