I want to play surroud sound with my PS3 through my receiver and speakers (Sony DAV-DX150). I bought an Optical Digital Audio cable, but I don't think the receiver has an opening for it. Oddly enough, my Directv HD-20 has one. Any suggestions for getting surround sound for my PS3 movies? Thanks.

your directv has one for OUTPUTTING digital, not inputting it. if you don't have a optical input on your receiver you won't be able to use the optical cables. i'm assuming your receiver has some sort of surround processing built in that it breaks the signal into front/back/l/r, check your manual.

You should buy a new receiver. The system you have is a starter system that doesn't have much ability. I would look at the Onkyo 606, Yamaha 663, or some 2007 model that is being sold much cheaper because the new models are being released.
You can find either of those receivers for under $400 and they can decode the newest surround codecs (Dolby True HD, DTS Master Audio, and everything else below). Blu-ray has some unbelievable audio capabilities.

Yes. My receiver is one that is a 5-disc changer and has the front back, etc. speakers. I was hoping there was some way to use the digital cable with some kind of connector to the back of my receiver. So no chance without a new system?

you should still be able to use the surround sound for now through prologic II though...as long as your receiver has analog inputs that is...

The receiver does have the analog inputs, but I'm not sure what you mean by prologic II.
As suggested from another forum, you need a Multi AV adapter/cable for analog audio.
The red/white cables connect to the A/V receiver and provide "stereo". Dolby Pro-Logic can provide "surround sound".
