I currently have an optoma h31 ceiling mounted, and a painted screen on the wall. The room is fairly small (and very light-controlled), projector about 10 feet from wall, screen 16x9 about 82 inches diagonal. I am going to upgrade to either an HD72 or HD65, both can be had for same price.

1) I am hoping to not have to change much in terms of ceiling mount location or screen...and the optomas are not too flexible with placement...does anybody know if offset/zoom on the 72 or 65 will be about same as my H31? I know the HD65 seems to have a different offset from HD72, and def a smaller zoom.

2) Slighty different note, i do not need extremely high lumens since light-controlled and smallish screen, want deepest blacks possible, and want very quiet since small room and wife sensitive to that type of noise. HD72 seems to satisfy these reqs better, do i lose much in image quality going to hd72 versus newer hd65? Hard to compare these two projectors.

Regards,
Adam

The HD72 should be close to the same offset as the H31. The newer HD65 offset will be half the vertical distance so you would have to shift your screen or use keystone.

I have to apologize in advance Madadam.
I, by no means, wish to hijack this thread. but i have a similar question.
I have a H27 (CLOSE to the H31!) and am thinking about upgrading my pj. (maybe HD65)
I'm also really close to buying a proper fixed screen. (thinking Carada..)
does anyone else notice a trend within Optoma's Offsets lately?

i suppose the question i'm asking is: is there going to be anymore H27/H31/HD72/H803 offset types or is it all moving towards the HD65/HD71's?

just trying to save myself some heartache by buying the proper screen now and not having to move it too much; in case i feel like moving up the rungs on the Optoma ladder.

heh. some standard throws would be nice eh? but then again, flexibility is what attracts most of us to pj's in the beginning.
