I'm looking to get in to budget PJ's, the HC1500 if i can find it, or the dt-510.
my room will have a fair amount of ambient light at times. i plan to get thicker curtains for the windows, that should help alot. but i would like to see what it may look like.
and I know photos wont give me a realistic showing, but its better then nothing.
thanks!
oh, and if you can tell me what kind of PJ and what type/color/size of screen.

I have the HC1500. I'll see what I can come up with when I get home from work tonight around midnight EST. Of course it wont be sunlight, but i have a lamp in there that I can turn on. It might give you an idea.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I was just going through the same thing.
I ended up getting an HD65 and I am surprised how well it handles the ambient light in my bonus room.
Attached are a couple of pics. I have a window that is only partially shaded opposite the wall that I project onto. I took the attached pics around 7pm local time so the sun was still in the sky but the room wasn't overwhelming bright. During the day with direct sun shining in I would have to at least cover the upper portion of the window that is currently not covered. It is one of those windows that has the semicircle at the top. The blinds only cover the rectangular portion.
I feel like if you at least have a way to limit the ambient light you will be fine.

The real killer of projectors is sunlight. Lamps don't do that much damage to the picture, but sunlight renders the picture completely unwatchable. Of course you always want a dark room, but sometimes that's not possible or practical. But eliminating direct sunlight is almost always essential.

I have tan walls and a dt 510 200" projected on that wall no screen yet that works great with sheers on the windows but during the day there is a lot of light. It is too hot to close up the house and run the ac just to watch tv or surf the net or let the kid play games.
Sometimes games that are set at night or are dark are hard to watch, but its like trying to watch tv with light glare on the set.
It reminds me of watching at a sports bar where there is a lot of light, save your good stuff till the sun goes down or when you can pull the blackout drapes.
This is not a dedicated batcave or home theater, its a daily media room with a lot of ambient light during the summer, sun goes down and its spectacular to watch even with light from other rooms, some day I may go to a batcave but right now i dont know what i am missing:)

Here's a couple I have taken of my HD70. One is with the shades drawn during the brightest part of the day and the other is late aftenoon / early evening with the shade back up. Keeping direct sunlight off the screen is very important. Ambient light is easier to deal with.

I'm unsure whether I'll keep my HC1500 for the bedroom, or if I'll have to sell it because of the throw limits. I'm in a similar situation as you regarding ambient light. I'll let you know if I don't end up keeping the HC1500.
