My equipment:
- Sony 46' XBR5
- Pioneer 91TXH receiver
- PS3
- Pioneer DV-410VK DVD /region free/
- Comcast box

What would be the best way to connect this equipment?

I am thinking about connecting the receiver to the TV with HDMI. My receiver has only 2 HDMI inputs - and I will use them for PS3 and Comcast box.

The problem is with DVD. It has: HDMI out, video out, s-video, digital out coaxial..
I am thinking about using digital coax and s-video - that would be going to the receiver. I can also run the HDMI to the TV and then digital coax to the receiver...

Is there a better way to connect this?

Thanks

doesn't the dvd player have component output? what is the maximum resolution output of each device? if your tv supports 1080p i'd run whatever actualy 1080p devices you have to the hdmi's unless your tv has component 1080p...without looking up all the specs i don't know...feel free to post back...

DVD: HDMI out, component video, video out, s-video out, digital audio out-coaxial, audio out

RECEIVER: pretty much all inputs

TV: HDMI Inputs 3, S-Video Inputs, Component Video Inputs, Composite Inputs, PC Inputs, Audio Outputs,

The TV is 1080p, DVD has upscaling to 1080p, Comcast box will be hi-def (will have it on Sunday)...

assuming that your tv only accepts 1080i through component, i'd still run the comcast through component and your other two through hdmi for the reason that i'm pretty sure comcast hd is only 1080i max...i don't think they have the kind of bandwidth to send a 1080p signal...

of course your output would be hdmi, depending on how your receiver handles component-to-hdmi output you might also end up running a seperate component to your tv and then just running the audio seperately to the receiver...

is this clear enough? probably not lol...sorry if you have more questions shoot 'em :)

JJacobs,

Thanks for your help.

I thought Comcast will be 1080p - but I guess you are correct. I will just use the component to the receiver for the box. And hopefully receiver will output through the HDMI.

i'd do some googling around, i know some receivers have issues when running from component in to outputting hdmi...sometimes the picture suffers for whatever reasons...so you might be better off skipping the receiver altogether for the video portion of the set-up and running the components from the box directly to the back of the tv...then just running audio to the receiver...but without knowing everything about your receiver i can't tell you exactly what method to choose...it might be perfectly kosher to run component in and hdmi out depending on how your receiver handles it. good luck!
