I recently had a ReplayTV DVR die in a Lightning strike, and am looking to upgrade to an HD version. The M5110 media player looks like it is very close to what I want (No cable here, only atsc), but in looking at the manual it seems as though they aren't fully utilizing this machine's DVR capability. It has all the things necessary (ethernet, hard drive, linux, atsc tuner) to become a full-featured DVR, but they fall short in the program guide scheduling area. To set repeated recordings, you have to specify by time and hour. The programs are stored according to time and date and station, not program name! Its only guide data comes from the broadcast EPG, no mention is made of any ability for it to use xmltv guides. SO CLOSE, but yet so far. :( Running linux, you'd think this would definitely be capable of loading external guides, or even maybe handling a SchedulesDirect subscription on its own through the ethernet port.

One can dream, eh? are these things hackable? :)
