If I have 2 aTVs on the same network, can they serve each other media?
For example, if I put all my music on one aTV and all my video on the other, can I stream music to the dedicated "video" machine?

Also, can the aTV act as a wireless access point (using the ethernet port to connect a wired-only device to the network?

Thanks,

Ben

Unhacked, I think the answer is no in both instances...aTV is a destination player, not a streamer itself, and it can only receive streamed content from the instance of iTunes that's up and running and paired with it...and while an aTV can now function as a "remote speaker" in the sense of an Airtunes destination, I believe that's the only Airport Express-like functionality it got.

With all your music and video in one iTunes library on a single Mac, though, both aTVs can draw from it simultaneously. Even if you had all music on one aTV and all video on a second aTV, to use your example, you'd be wise to have that content backed up somewhere else anyway. Is keeping a Mac awake what you're trying to avoid?

Using one mini and one aTV instead of two aTVs should solve all your issues.

Not to jack the thread, but speaking of two ATVs on the same network. How do/can you rename them? I want to name mine based on the room that it resides in, but I don't see an option. Does It show up as Apple TV 1 & 2? I only have one btw...

In iTunes, just type a new name in the column on the left listing the AppleTVs on the Mac (or PC) that the ATV is linked to.
