View Full Version : Sharp DT-510 Question

I set mine up a few days ago and I'm very pleased with it. Using the high contrast movie mode, I just had to add some contrast, add 2 stops to the brightness setting and lower the colour intensity about 6 stops.
The room is small and my screen is a 92" Grey. I have full light control.
The only thing that would have made set up easier would be having the range of adjustment the lcd units have. I had to play around a bit with height etc. to get the image centered on the screen. I have low ceilings, so I had to table mount it. We sit beside or behind the projector and its fairly quiet. Much more so than my Viewsonic Sine1000 I was using.
There is one small thing that I'd like to fix. The image swings up a bit on the upper right. Otherwise the outside lines of the image are straight. There is no distortion of the image, it just turns up on the upper right.
Again, not a serious problem, but I wonder if there is a way to straighten it without hurting image quality.
Thanks for your help.
Larry.

I don't have an answer to your question, but how did you "add some contrast"?

Use the keystone correction. With only having to adjust one corner it shouldn't adversly affect the image. I use it on my DT-500 and it's fine...I have a similar issue.

I haven't noticed that problem with mine, so I can't really suggest anything other than to return it if it bothers you. I would avoid using keystone correction, but you could always try it, I guess.

Pedro2, I think he means he just bumped up the contrast setting in the setup menu.

This sounds like the bowing issue--only smaller--that many of us have had with the Sharp/Marantz short throw lens. Not a big deal, but not perfect either. i do not think that you can get rid of it without zooming the picture out over the black border of the screen. Again, not a perfect solution.

Thank you all for your advise.
Pedro2, Steerforth is correct. I increased the contrast by 10 in the setup. Wish there was a simple way to set the contrast in Digital Video Essentials. I just don't have the patience to do it the way they recommend. It just sounds quite difficult. Just adjusted it by what I felt looked good after getting the brightness correct.
I'll try adjusting keystone in that corner and see if it affects image quality. If it does, I'll just live with it.
Bdbaba, like you said, it's not a big deal, so if keystone doesn't work, I'll leave it the way it is. Otherwise I'm thrilled with the quality of the image.

Finally had a chance to sit down and watch a movie (Gone Baby Gone BD) on my new DT-510. Everything looks great with one exception: I can notice the dithering pattern in some colors and image noise in dark scenes. Is this common issue on DLP FPs? My previous FP is an LCD and I've never seen dithering pattern with it.

The image noise probably has something to do with my picture settings. Have to experiment a bit on that. Any suggesting on the dithering?

Hmm... Maybe the noise is the disc itself?

Gotta try some better disc and see.
