View Full Version : INFOCUS X9? any info? Lukom 08-01-08, 12:14 AM Does anyone have any info on the Infocus X9? i dont know if its new...or not very popular but I cannot find any valuable info BuffaloJim 08-01-08, 03:40 PM It's a business projector which usually means that it is very bright and the colors are somewhat off compared to HT projectors. But its resolution is 1280 x 720 so it would probably make a good projector if you need it for both business presentations and movie viewing. If you only want an HT projector, you should look elsewhere. Jim DaMan1970 09-11-08, 06:46 AM Here's some more info: InFocus X9 HD projector (http://www.hdtvinfo.eu/news/hdtv-articles/infocus-x9-hd-projector.html) http://digg.com/hardware/InFocus_X9_HD_projector/p.jpg speedtriplex 09-11-08, 11:08 AM From the Infocus website http://www.infocus.com/Products/Projectors/X9.aspx What grabs the attention is "1800 video-optimized lumens" which is a very good news for the gaming community at large, but I won't dismiss it for HT altogether considering it's in the same ballpark as the Optoma HD65, Mits HC1500/1600 and the famous Panny AX200U davegrey99 09-11-08, 12:13 PM better check color wheel speed. if its not at least 4x, then I would avoid. relaxman 09-12-08, 04:37 AM Jim, It's a business projector? Just because the high ansi lumens? I thinked its good, because i dont have to make a full dark for watching movies. It has DC2, native 1280, with deep colour, 28db noise, so i dont know why this model isnt good for movies. ? Color wheel speed also OK! I'm interested in stereo 3D with shutterglasses. This require at least 85Hz with dark room. In the specs i see that X9 can accept the 85hz signal, but dont know if it project to the screen the 85hz, or downconvert to 50/60Hz? Good news, that the X1, X2 and even X3 support real 85Hz, so i hope X9 also. But those are only XGA models. I wrote to infocus, but no answer :( Anybody has one, and can test it? If not: what is the cheapest 1280x720 projector with real 85Hz? thx, Marton davegrey99 09-12-08, 10:14 PM Color wheel speed also OK! What is it? JeffKB 09-12-08, 10:23 PM It's an RGBRGB wheel, so 4x at worst. dysfunction26 09-12-08, 11:40 PM It's an RGBRGB wheel, so 4x at worst. What is the U.S. pricing...anyone? speedtriplex 09-13-08, 03:04 PM retail -- $1099 street -- ??? relaxman 09-19-08, 07:42 AM anybody has one? experience? Kirk Ritari 09-19-08, 08:48 AM As of 9/2, it hadn't begun shipping. At that time Infocus said it would be "a few weeks". ETA: Just found out that Infocus has received some at their warehouse. relaxman 09-19-08, 08:52 AM As of 9/2, it hadn't begun shipping. At that time Infocus said it would be "a few weeks". what? i know that a hungarian guy ordered from pixm., and become 2 weeks ago! he use it. so its there. madoz 09-23-08, 10:35 AM It's an RGBRGB wheel, so 4x at worst. Since this pj supports BrilliantColor it should be RGBCMY. I have X9 for a month now (bought from Pixmania for €497 incl SH). I´m quite happy with this projector especially for last 2 weeks when I got my Black Widow screen finished. With BW it is good to watch even with relatively high ambient light. Tried it also with Getgray disk. It´s my first pj so I can not give any comparizon to other models. Some info about x9 vs HD700x can be found here: hxxp://www.projectorpoint.co.uk/projectors/InFocus_X9.html JeffKB 09-23-08, 01:19 PM Since this pj supports BrilliantColor it should be RGBCMY. Not necessarily. BrilliantColor also supports implementation on RGB wheels: http://dlp.com/downloads/white_papers/168_BrilliantColor_white_paper.pdf ace5000 12-26-08, 09:40 PM Any X9s out there? Looks good. ace5000 01-08-09, 11:21 PM nothing yet? hayneskr 01-09-09, 08:19 AM I almost bought one! Oh, and it is NOT a business machine. Here is a good review: http://www.projectorreviews.com/infocus/X9/index.php My impression of it is that it would be a very bright projector, with the usual Infocus strengths in terms of out-of-the-box calibration and shadow detail. Trouble is, is it worth more than the PT-AX200? Now before I say why I almost bought one, keep in mind pricing can be way different here in Canada where the X9 costs almost $600 less than the AX200 - which still goes for $2k. In the end, I bought an HD80 as it was available (for a short time!) for $1300. The X9 would have cost me a few hundred dollars more than the HC1600 and W500. It would be around the same price as the Home Cinema 720 and HD65. I REALLY liked the idea of getting this projector just because of the fact that so little calibration would be required to achieve a picture that was bright, with excellent colour and shadow detail. Kinda ironic I ended up getting an HD80 which does require so much tweaking! In a way it boils down to personal preferances. The X9 is a good 720p DLP projector that requires little tweaking to get the best out of it and also happens to be very bright. Actually, I kinda forgot about this thing. Many people look for bright 720p models, and the AX200 has the market on that! For people who have setups where the X9 will fit, it should also be on the list simply due to its ease of use. ace5000 01-09-09, 10:20 PM I wonder why there is so little interest in this thing considering the legacy of the X1, 4805, etc. hayneskr 01-10-09, 08:49 AM I think it is because there is no "hook" to it, and there just isn't the dealer network to back it up. It is a bright 720p projector - but so is the Panny AX200 and you can buy one of those anywhere. The people that are interested in an excellent "plug 'n play" projector will most likely be shopping at big box stores and they will probably go home with an LCD model made by Panasonic. That isn't bad - it is just most likely. People who are putting these machines in mixed-use rooms will want a bright PJ and the AX200 fits the bill - that is why it is the best selling 720p projector. The dealers that do carry Infocus will most likely be visited by enthusiasts, many of whom would be turned off by the idea of a bright 720p projector, because they have a dedicated room at home and would rather have something more focused - if I were to ask what is better, the Epson Home Cinema 720 or X9 what do you think most people would say without even having seen the X9? Whether that is fair or not is debatable - the X9's colour reproduction is really good. I think the X9 just suffers as it falls into a niche that doesn't exist. Infocus projectors attract enthusiasts and the X9 is not an enthusiast projector. The X9 should be a very popular home theatre projector. Too bad that the average consumer - the one who would most benefit from this PJ - will never even know it exists. ace5000 01-10-09, 09:13 PM Then I suppose In focus has dropped the ball in a market they used to dominate.. hayneskr 01-11-09, 08:12 AM I don't know if that is fair, but then, evidence would prove you right. Maybe that is part of the reason why people left Infocus and are busy pushing Planar into the Home Theatre market. The IN83 is a pretty slick projector, and is Infocus' top of the line model. But how would it compare to the Planar models? On further reflection - I agree. Infocus has dropped the ball. |
