I just got a new LED series 7 samsung DLP its a 61". and geek squad is coming tomorrow to calibrate it. im just wondering if the are ISF certified and do they know what they are doing?, i was a little skeptical about it first, but the calibrated lcd they had looked really good, so can i expect a better picture tomorrow? or did i fall for a scam?

Calibration is not a scam. Its science with a little art thrown in.

Best Buy does have ISF certified techs - if you are buying ISF calibration I would hope the person would be ISF certified - fraud isn't a good thing that usually stays away from Best Buy.

Do they know what they are doing? As you do not know who is coming out, how is anyone supposed to know the answer to that question. Are their good lawyers and bad lawyers? Are their good Politicians and bad Politicians - all serving in the same Congress or Party? Sure, there are different levels of expertise in everything.

Who did the LCD that looked good? Is that the person coming out? Also, do you think someone that knows how to tweak a Porsche's knows a Ferrari just as well? Some certainly may - and though the principles are the same, each have their little tweaks. Someone who knows a brand's LCD might not be as competent as how to get the most out of a DLP.

Bottom line, there is no way to answer some of your questions that dont fall on the ridiculous, such as did I fall for a scam.

Make sure the person works on it and explains what he is doing to your satisfaction. If you are not happy with it, speak up. Communicate your thoughts and concerns.

If the person doesn't want to work with you as they proceed, probably better off calling a manager and letting him leave.

Bottom line, if its not done to your satisfaction, Best Buy will most likely send another tech out at no charge.

Actually, IMHO, if you're happy with the results, then you weren't scamed.

Might be worth asking the tech that arrives what experience he/she/it has with your line of sets, and what - if any - certification he has. If you don't like what you hear, send him packing and get someone else in.

I may be in the same boat soon as I may be changing out my Sony for the 73835 soon. This time I may get it professionally calibrated by somone who may know what they're doing, instead of running my DVE disc through it.....
