Has there been any talk of an updated HD-DVR coming out any time soon for DirecTV? The current model has been out for a while.
Thanks,
David

The HR-21 DVR was released within the last year or two, and really, nothing's changed on their infrastructure that would necessitate a new receiver. And *please* don't say "HDMI 1.3, duh"... dschamis 08-01-08, 01:52 PM What do you consider a "long time"? The HR-21 DVR was released within the last year or two, and really, nothing's changed on their infrastructure that would necessitate a new receiver. And *please* don't say "HDMI 1.3, duh"... The feature I am most interested in is the ability to watch a program recorded on one DVR in my house on another DVR in my house. The TiVoHD lets you do this and I think that Fios's new DVR lets you but I do not think that the DirecTV one does. 1.3 would be nice too, but not really necessary! The current ones are already networkable. They just need a software upgrade to add such a feature. The point of a DVR being a computer is to avoid new hardware as much as possible by enhancing the functions through software and firmware upgrades. dschamis 08-01-08, 03:46 PM Why would they need to release a new DVR for that? Any word on adding this feature? speddy 08-14-08, 03:01 PM I like the thread. I hope that this is a worthwhile contribution? I had read in another AV post that the HR21 or HR1 Pro could output 19080p signal. All the information that I can find says that it'll do 1080i. Does anyone know if there is a skunk works Directv HD-DVR project out there that would accomplish this? With the Optical HDMI port you'd think that this would be a step in that direction. I'm on the brink of buying an HR21 but if there is something in the works I'd consider limping along without the fancy on-demand feature that you can get with the HD-DVR Plus system. speddy 08-14-08, 03:02 PM Sorry Typo . . . 1080P :( BeachComber 08-15-08, 08:46 PM HR23 is appears ready to rollout. It appears the features are things you might never notice, such as the lack of a need for B-Band Convertors. A little more information is in the H22-600 / HR23 post in the HDTV Technical Forum. |
