Here's how my setup is:
I have two power strips plugged into one outlet. One of them has just my projector plugged in (a Panamax PM8) and the other (Monster HTS 2000 MKII) has everything else. I have a 3.1 system at the moment. The center is driven by the receiver. The fronts and the subwoofer are driven out via preamp outs on the receiver. The fronts go to a DEQ2496 (via RCA to XLR cables) then to a DCX2496 (via AES/EBU) then to an Emotiva LPA-1 (via XLR to RCA cables). The subwoofer goes straight to my O-audio 500W amp.
On the video side of things, I have (sources) -> DVDO VP50 -> Pioneer Elite 91 -> Marantz VP12S4. Well, this is also the audio side of things, too, except take out the Marantz.
I have my cable box and my DVD player hooked up via HDMI (for both video and audio). With both of them, I get severe noise (NOT 60Hz hum) through the fronts and center. The noise is wide-band. I hear it from the woofers, midranges and tweeters. As the picture changes, the noise changes. When the video fades out, the noise partially fades out, etc.
What I have tried so far:
-Disconnect cable wire, and disconnect cable box completely from the system. Didn't help at all, but stangely, I found cable TV no longer working. :D
-Put a cheater plug on the VP12S4
-Put a cheater plug on the Emotiva
-Unplug the preamp outs for everything (fronts and sub). The center still had all of the noise present.
-Bypass the VP50 by going DVD player -> Receiver -> VP12S4 (including with cheater plug).
Now at my last place, I had everything set up the same, including using the same dual power strips from one outlet. I had noise from the fronts only, but if I put cheater plugs on the DEQ2496 and DCX2496, it would go away completely. I never understood that, really. But I also never had any noise from the center or surrounds. (The surrounds are not yet hooked up at my new place; they were also driven by the receiver at my old place.)
So far I have only tried HDMI audio and I plan to try S/PDIF instead tonight, but aside from that, any suggestions?
