Calibration+distance+ SPL setup 5.1
I am going to recalibrate my oppo983(new software up date). My 12ft distance to my PLP is the middle of my sofa.
However, wanting to use a tripod- for more accuracy-less hand movement/noise. the SPL Would sit~2' closer to the speakers than normal sitting back on my sofa. I know distance is critical for better calibration. and the rears speakers correct distance will be off too.
1. change av distance to 14'?
2. change av distance to 10'?
3. hand hold to right 12'?
4. option??

Put the tripod on the sofa...

I think that'll be close enough.

I could -maybe- a little unstable. Maybe take a cushion out.

If it a regular tripod, shorten the legs and use 3 phone books for the base. Or maybe leave the front leg on the floor with the other 2 legs shortened and on the sofa. If it is mini tripod, try stacking some books (with the larger books on the bottom:p). If you have to, forget the tripod. Stack some books and prop the SPL meter at the correct angle.

It is of tantamount importance that, if you want your sweet spot to be calibrated properly, your SPL meter be right where your head would be. There is no way to easily "fudge it".

Thanks, that just what i did. Remove the the right cushion & used the bottem base of the sofa worked just fine... (we have an over stuffed sofa & used the cushion as a bass trap....). should have thought of it before. Playing Veinna Teng -now- sounds good.
Thanks.
