View Full Version : DIY Masking Panels/Inserts for Curved Screen?

I read about members making insert panels for masking their scope screen...but the only threads I've found are those with a flat scope screen. I have a curved screen. The problem lies in that I need the panels to be ridged enough to stand up and stay in place sitting within the edge of the screen frame, but allow them to curve to the contour of the screen.

One idea I had was to use density foam (1 inch depth), which would curve nicely, but I don't know that it would stand in place or allow for a nice straight edge. I could use some black velcro along the inside frame edge and the outside edge of the panel to keep it in place...but I would worry that I would damage the inside edge of the frame (fraying if the velcro was removed etc).

I do not work with wood, but I could imagine using some lighter weight wood and take it to a cabinet maker to bend a curve into the wood to conform to the curve of the screen?

Any and all ideas would be appreciated. Has someone had success making panels for your curved screen? If so, I'd love to hear how you did it?

Thanks
Ron

Since you've already made your screen, my only suggestion might be for a cheap plastic panel that could be heated and bent to conform to the radius of your screen. This would provide the clean/sharp edge you desire even when covered with velvet.

I was always partial to the idea of using neodymium magnets to hold the masking in the correct position. It would also be helpful when storing when not in use!
