Yesterday on my Optoma HD70, the colors on the image started going all funky, with all colors looking green and then black and whiteish, then reds. Just all messed up. It would do this for a few minutes and at first get better for a few minutes, then get bad again, and then the projector would got off. It now will do this same process over and over again with the same result.

The LED's are indicating Lamp Fail per the manual. The bulb only has about 1000 hours on it. Is this the way a bulb looks like when it is on its last leg? I thought it would not work at all, like all or nothing. Before the flashes start though, the bulb is as bright as normal. I even cranked it up to high and turned the AI on to see if I could "fix" it as mentioned on a few internet posts. Didn't fix it, but boy was it bright!

Anyone think this is just a normal end of bulb life experience?

Thanks!

No. When a lamp is failing, it gets darker, Period. It will NOT cause any color issues as you describe. You have other issues, possibly a failing color wheel. Hard to tell from here.

Sounds like the color wheel. If you have any warranty left, it's time to call.

Thanks. I was kind of of hoping a new bulb would fix it so my wife could watch the Olympics. Im calling Optoma.

Last night, I was able to get the wheel spinning for about five hours by turning the pj on and off each time it wanted to shut down. About five hours in, it stuck on green, so I just turned it off for the night.

I emailed Optoma yesterday, and hopefully they will send me my RMA number so I can begin the warranty process.

I watch Holtam's video on youtube. My HD72 is doing exactly the same thing.

Anybody have any experience with a color wheel failure costs?

Thanks!:eek::eek::eek:

Thanks!:eek::eek::eek:If you can find the part, maybe $150, if you have to send it in AND pay, $350 is a good number to start at.
