Hello All,

I am currently on my second 3808 (original sent back for a complete replacement, and now this one just got back from repair in Austin, TX) and I want to know if anyone could identify a problem with my setup that might be causing my problem.

The issues I have had both times have to do with the unit not putting out either any video with sound (1st time), or not putting out any video or sound (2nd time).

My receiver and all my other peripherals are plugged into a battery backup / surge protector. I have my tv connected to the receiver using an HDMI cable which is ran through the wall, and I do not have any surge protection on the television.

Both times this has happened, it was after a thunderstorm. Do you guys think that a surge could be going through the TV out the HDMI cable and zapping the receiver? The TV hasn't had any problems at all both times.

Any help or comments on this would be great. Thanks!

Run a separate HDMI cable from your TV to the receiver and see if that cures your problem. Not to say you have vermin, but mice have been known to enjoy cable insulation behind the sheetrock!

If the lightning is close enough no protection will save your equipment except disconnecting all the wires. You probably got hit with a spike that upset the computer. If lucky a hard reset will restore factory settings and you'll need to reprogram custom values.
