Is there a way to configure the Netflix client plug in to extract DTS or Dolby Digital audio and pass it out the spdif interface direct to an HT Receiver? I saw a reference to ffdshow being able to provide this since the plug in uses WMP11 as the video engine, but finding good information on confuring ffdshow has thus far not been easy.

Does anyone have it working? Is this something I just need to forget about?

Thanks,

Mike.

What would you bitstream? AS far as I know, no movies that they stream have DD or DTS soundtracks.

Well, if there is no DTS or AC3 data in the stream that answers that question. Too bad, but I am not that surprised. I suspect that removing the audio data from the stream is what allows them to get by with such a low data rate.

Thanks for the information,

Mike.

You can achieve a similar effect by using the AC3Filter app to take the stereo stream and create a psuedo surround sound stream that you can send over PCM via optical or coax digital connection to a receiver. It works, but the sound quality is not that great. But it is better than the PC speakers.

even when it does go 5.1 (and i think it will eventually) but its likely to be wma pro since they use silverlight its the easiest for them to use. as long as the boxes will decode that to dd 5.1 it wont be a problem (the 360 can not sure about the roku or lg bluray player)

Instead of mucking with AC3filter you could just let your receiver apply DPL IIx effects to the 2 channels sound.

I would use DPLII if I could, but I have my old Denon 4800 and it does not support it. Just can't get the wife's support to replace it yet.
