how does into the wild VC-1 compare to the AVC HD DVD? same encode & just different codec, or maybe some real image improvement?

I have the HD-DVD of both of those and both have terrific PQ.

Dolby TrueHD on a StudioCanal encode? Wow...

Atonement might be one for the import crowd. I doubt Universal is going to rush that out to the PS3 group here. The Blu-Ray has lossless audio, whereas the HD DVD had DD+.

just for the audio the choice is quite clear (unless theres are pitch issues again). but PQ is more important for me.

All of the Studio Canal releases are reported to be locked to Region B... Yay blu-ray.

Thanks for the info, gubarenko. I very nearly picked up Atonement when I was in France a couple of weeks ago, but I was worried about the subtitles. This is one film I'm desperate to have on Blu-ray.

does anyone have an into the wild image comparison of the AVC HD DVD and the VC-1 blu-ray? the video stream of the AVC version should be ~21gb, while its only ~23gb for the blu-ray main .m2ts file with 4 lossless tracks (2xtruehd 2xdts-hd ma) included. considering the movie's length of 2:30h there could be the chance of too low bitrate for the video track maybe...I know bitrate is of course not everything, but at least problems due to that could be possible, thats why im asking.

I heard that the videostream size is only about 12,5GB ! thats why i am a bit worried about the quality

Xylon, do you have the Blu disc to do the Blu caps for Atonement? Moreover, do you have a LG BH200 or a region B player? I'm guessing your HTPC won't care.

I have the LG BH200 and HTPCs but I don't have the disc yet. Will get it for sure.
