Hi,

I have Motorola 3416 DVR and Mitsubishi 1100U D-VHS. The system worked fine through the firewire before the NBC Olympics started. Yesterday I tried to copy the open ceremony, but the copy was not playable. I didn't receive NO COPY warnning when I did it. Can someone tell me he has done this successfully, so I may go to check my system.

I have successfully copied my NBC recording of the Olympics opening from my Comcast 6412 to a JVC 30K DVHS and it is playable. I should have used my LST3401 to record it OTA and had I done so I would have removed the commercials in my archived copy. As it is, I have to download it from tape to the 3401 to strip off the unwanted stuff and make another tape copy.

can't wait to start recording HD material off my comcast 6412 onto my newly purchased JVC DVHS HMDH5U! Now to find some cheap JVC DVHS tapes...anyone have any suggestions on where to buy tapes?

I don't know how the JVC decks are, but with my Mits 1100u, it takes "SVHS" tapes as "DVHS" tapes are the same thing, only with an extra hole or something. Only caviat is that the deck doesn't automatically recognize them as DVHS, so I have to hit the button and force it into DVHS mode, but it records onto them just fine.

I bought tapes from this website called tape warehouse, i think they were down in Atlanta somewhere. Their website is kindof primative, but they are legit I have gotten tape stock from them with no problems. I think I got Maxell DF-300 tapes, not sure what they run now.

This is a good honest seller with a good price, I use the Panasonic and they work great in my JVC HM-DT100U and you save shipping when you order more at the same time. I bought my 100U from them and they have good prices on D-VHS hardware also.

I record HD material off of the Comcast box via firewire all the time.

The price of DVHS machines has gone through the roof on ebay. I see Mits2000 units going for $300-400!

I am trying to figure out how she purchased them from Chicago and picked them up in Richmond the next day, as they would not ship.

urrrr - no

the DVHS 300 record 150 minutes in HD - not 300 minutes.

that is 2 hours 30 minutes - You won't even get 2 movies on them, much less 3.

newb mistake! thanks for the heads up beachcomber...live and learn...how long have u had d-vhs? well I might be able to get 2 to 3 tv episodes of terminator: sarah connor chronicles minus the commercials...in order to achieve that do I need to first record to my dvr then record to the d-vhs deck? is it just as easy as pausing the deck while I fast forward thru the commercials on the dvr? thx for any help! what deck do u have?

I have an update on this. While I was able to successfully copy and playback the Olympics opening from my Comcast 6412 DVR to DVHS, I cannot download it to my LG LST3401 to edit out commercials because Comcast has apparently marked the program as COPY ONCE. If I had known this earlier, I would have recorded it OTA on my LG. I have not had this problem before but most of my previous recordings of network programs on Comcast have been confined to KQED PBS because they do not have noany commercials. It is easier for me to record from Comcast than from the LG because of guide issues. Anything I want to archive with conmmercials such as 24 I do from the LG.

As to DVHS tape availability, I have been using S-VHS tapes mostly but and I have used Tape Warehouse for bulk purchases but they say that SVHS or DVHS tapes are no longer available although I have been able to find them at Fry's.

I saw only one tape at one store and two at another. It looks like the end of the line for D-VHS. There were no S-VHS tapes at all. Note that for a dolllar more you can buy one of over a dozen blu ray movies currently on
sale at Fry's. I got MIB, XXX State of the Union and Starship Troopers. Taking advantage of sales like these has allowed me to free up a number of archived DVHS movie tapes for reuse.

Well, I know there are lots of DVHS lovers here.
But for two purposes of having DVHS, namely watching HD movie releases and archiving HD shows, I think Blu-ray and HDDVD have long achieved the objectives.
If you visit the BD and HDDVD forums you will find methods posted for archiving HD shows in both HDDVD and BD.
I myself have been archiving HDTV shows and playing back in BD or HDDVD players for the last two and half years. I find it to be a lot cheaper too. A DVD-DL disk gives you about 75min playing time in HD.
Beijing Opening Ceremonies would fit on one disk after I cut out commercials and Parade of Nations.
