View Full Version : Casablanca III setup question
htfan123 08-13-08, 07:31 AM Hi,
I need help with a specific setup question for the CBIII.
I had three INPUT set up in the casablanca, one for a DVD player (source Coaxial), one for a Direct TV receiver (source analog), and one for a SACD (connected also using a six shooter). I bought a Blue Ray Disc Player, and tried to add it as the INPUT 4, I used the Crystal Software, copied all the speaker settings from INPUT 1 to INPUT 4, selected as source TOSLINK, renamed the input, etc...but I only get audio from the side speakers...no sound at all from L/R, Center, or sub...
I proceeded then to add as a source the TOSLINK into INPUT 1 and now I get all the audio...I don't understand. The set up is exactly the same. What am I doing wrong?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

First, why is the DirectTV hooked up analogue? The DACs in it are a joke compared to the CB, and you could be enjoying Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro, and Circle Surround on DirectTV sources with the Toslink output.
As for the BD player I would use the COAX instead of the Toslink. I also would hook up the 5.1 analogue outputs up to the Six Shooter as long as the BD player has them. If it can decode True HD and/or DTS MA you could listen to those higher bit rate codecs that way. What BD do you have?
Now as to your problem: Go into the Setup Menu for input 4> input> Configuration> L. Look to see if it is on, full, full/Low Pass, X-Over, or Off. It may well be Off. If so turn it on to the appropriate choice for you system. Do the same with the C, R, & Sub. If they are all in any but the Off position then I would turn the Master Power off on the back for 1 minute and turn it back on to re-boot. Let us know what you get with that. Regards, Norm

Norm,
Thanks for the reply...a few answers to your questions:
1) My HT is in Argentina, I wish I had a Toslink/Coaxial output from my DTV receiver...I think we are still at least 18-24 months away from having a 5.1 channel available here (believe me I called to find out).
2) My BD player is a PS3, so only has a Toslink output for the audio...(btw, i agree with some of the other posts in the forum about the noise of the PS3 fan...it feels like a jumbo plane...anyway)...
3) On the setup, I used the macro function in the CB3 to copy 100% of the settings from INPUT 1 to INPUT 4, i verified everything again to ensure that it was exactly the same but still no sound, I only get the sound of the side speakers when i select the "SIDES ON" option...
4) I tried, following Steve suggestion, to change from TOSLINK 1, to 2, to 3 as source, but still the same, only the SIDES on...
I don't know what I am doing wrong...
Again, any ideas will be greatly appreciated...and if you're ever in Argentina, I'll buy you a steak
Best

Try using input 5, #4 may be corrupted, and don't use the macro function. Set it manually, directly in the #5 setup menu. Norm
htfan123 08-15-08, 11:16 AM It was so easy...it almost hurt...the macro function doesn't copy the set up for the Six Shooter. When a new input is created as a default the six shooter is OFF, I had to put it on the correct input for the six shooter. On the Crystal software is the MISC 2 tab, you can also do it on the CBIII going to the 6 menu. That's why i could hear the sides speakers (they are routed directly to my Dreadnaught ampli, but not the other speakers as they are routed through the 6-shooter). My dealer saved me :-)
