Saw the PD Action! model three 1080 with Crystalio 2 at the 2008 Hong Kong AV show last week demoed with the Pixel Magic MTV5000 recorder on a 150" ST screen. The resulting image was amazing, clear and very bright for SD TV viewing.
Can anyone please recommend any other projectors to me at around the same brightness of 2500 Lumens give or take... with HDMI 1.3 input.

We'd need to know the real Lumens number, the D65 lumens.

I believe that the new HT 5000 has HDMI 1.3 and will generate around 1800 lumens calibrated. This will give you over 20fL on that screen size.

The HDMI 1.3 version is called the HT5000E. There is not presently a dual lamp version in the Sim2 line up. I can't speak to the future though but I know nothing as to any plans for such a version.

Huh. I could've sworn that when the HT5000 was first announced, it was mentioned that a dual lamp version would be coming out soon after the single lamp model. Also, the British mag HiFiNews did a review of the HT5000 and made mention that the single lamp HT5000 was £30,000 and the dual lamp version was £40,000. I think the dual lamp model would be a killer pj since it would have enough output to allow us "brightness freaks" to set the white level as high as we could stand and still have output to spare. :D Hopefully the dual lamp version will come out eventually.

It is currently produced and is shipping already. It is $3000 more than the base HT5000E. That means the base is $62000 and the dual-lamp is $65000.

This model is old now because projectiondesign's new line of HT projectors is called 'Avielo' and the Action! Model III's replacement is called OPTIX.

The major differences are:

1. Crystalio II is out as the projector has an in-built scaling [pixelworks - I think Sim2 also has pixelworks scaling].
2. It also has one HDMI 1.3 connection. The DVI connection is also 1.3 compatible.
3. It comes in white or bronze rather than silver/black. I personally liked the silver or black colour options compared to these new colours.
4. It is ProNet compatible.
5. The projector is based on projectiondesign's professional series of projectors which is very good as the pro series is built for 24/7 operation!
6. I am not aware of any improvement made to the 6 lense options but the new lenses are called Signature Series.

If you liked what you saw in the HK AV show then it might be a good idea to check out the Optix before making a purchase. The competing projector(s) in this range should be Sim 2's HT 3000 series projector(s). That is an excellent projector series as well. It is not dual lamp.

The HT 5000 projector is a totally different league and therefore a different price bracket. The projector you saw along with the Optix and Sim 2 are the best single chip Full HD DLP projectors out there.

Art,

I did show you exactly what the model is. It was the dual lamp version. Whether they are shipping a different model now, that I do not know. As of a month ago, that was the model PRO5DLMB, saw it with my own eyes.

bballbag123,

I hate getting involved in something as petty as a model name but was prompted to by your attitude. Instead of trying to school people here, you might want to start by knowing wtf you are on about yourself.

The "PRO" models are a different kettle of fish altogether, they are not normal HT5000s. They are far lower contrast as the iris has been opened for max brightness, hence the MB in the model number. This is available in 1 and 2 lamp.

As you have already been clearly told by 2 people (now 3) who seem better informed................The dual lamp HT5000 is called HT5000HB.

Here's Sim2's MD telling you as well.............http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVmDniL7nLA

Anyway thanks for all your input
the HT5000 Im sure is a great PJ, but a little out of my budget right now. Does anyone know the Lumens on the Sim2 HT3000 hard to find this info on the their web page ??
the PD Optix PJ looks like its been updated for 2008 by adding HDMI 1.3a good news.
I would like to see this PJ and the Sim2 Model 3 1080 side by side !!

The HT3000e (HT3000 no longer made) will deliver around 1100 lumens @ D65.

It would be really good if you can manage to get a side by side comparison of the Optix and HT 3000e to see which projector you like more. Both the projectors should be excellent performers.

I had the chance to see an HT 3000 and Action! Model III 1080 in different places. To my eyes, both of them seemed to be excellent performers. I did a side by side of the 3000 with the C3X [720p] and picture was better from the 3000 IMO! Right now, for single chip DLP high end, these two projectors [Optix & 3000e] are right up there if you are prepared to spend.

Optix is dual lamp while the 3000e is single lamp. In other areas, you will have to see which projector is more suited to your needs. Last but not the least is the image each projector produces. Choose the right screen. Good luck.
