View Full Version : DISH 722 requires unplug/replug for HDMI out to projector

I have a Dish 722 DVR connected to an Optoma H31 projector, with the DVR's HDMI output cabled to the Optoma DVI's input connector (this two-year old model has no HDMI in). Problem is, the projector isn't initially finding the DVR's signal. I get a "No Signal" (or "No Signal - Source lock enabled") message virtually every time I turn on the projector to watch Dish, even though the DVR is clearly connected and turned on -- just as it was the last time I was using it and watching Dish. However, I've discovered that if I then just unplug the HDMI/DVI cable from the HDMI port in back of the 722, and plug it back in a second later, my projector suddenly has a picture -- and a pretty good one at that, for its resolution.

I would guess that the problem is the Dish 722 -- that it's not sending a signal out its HDMI port until I do the unplug/replug ritual. But I'm not really sure what's going on. I also have a Sony DVD player connected to the projector's component video ins, and projector has no problem finding that signal when the DVD player is in use. I've also tried connecting the DVD player's HDMI out to the projector's DVI in, same way the DVR is usually connected, and in that case the projector has no problem finding the DVD player's signal. I'm also certain that although the projector is not initially getting the 722's signal, at those times the 722 is indeed on and working -- I have the 722's component outs feeding a small TV monitor, and I can watch Dish on the monitor, yet the projector still has no signal -- until unplug/replug. Anybody else have any similar problems or suggestions?

Sounds like it needs a specific "handshake" sequence. Try turning on the projector with DVR off, then turn DVR on 2nd. Can also try reverse sequence if that 1st sequence doesn't work.

One person w/diff. equipment found his worked properly if he turned DVDR off, then on while connected.

Thanks for the tip -- I guess these "handshake" issues aren't that uncommon -- and it's nice to know what the problem most likely is. But unfortunately, it turns out that none of these suggested solutions work (though mysteriously, every once in a while the sync does work when I start things up -- but the only thing that works consistently is the unplug-replug technique I've described). I guess it's something I'll have to live with until I replace the projector with a newer model.
