i apologize if there is already a thread pertaining to this, but i searched and didn't find one. is there any way to debrand my Verizon qip6416-2 dvr to the generic version of the software that is found on the ones that are bought directly from Motorola?

for those of you unfamiliar with what debranding is, it is flashing the original manufacturer firmware over the Verizon modified one, in order to get rid of the verizon branding all over the software/firmware, as well as enabling any features that verizon has disabled.

one other question, on the Motorola guide that came with the dvr, it shows that there is a coaxial output, as well as an eSATA port. these ports are not on the outside of the box. is the hardware for these still within the box, or have these ports been physically removed?

thanks

Sure, you pull the battery inside that kills the cmos. At that point the box is in a virgin state WITH NO INFORMATION OR BRANDING WHATSOEVER.

That doesnt mean you just plug it in - as at that point it has no memory, no decrypting info, no keys - no nothing.

It will display an E11 on the front when you turn it on, which translates to "Help me, I'm lost and I have no idea who I am".

At that point you need to feed it a new image - in your case - a virgin image (if there is truly such a thing). I have no idea where you would find the image or the equipment you would need to push the image to box once you find it.

Regardless, the decryption keys would not be the same as the one Verizon uses, so though you would have a virgin box, it could not be used on a Verizon system and expect it to decrypt anything.

Anything else?

Does not if there or not as Verizon has not enabled them with their firmware. Mine has the non-functional eSata output, so I would imagine if its not physically showing on the back of your box, its physically not there.
