Woooooh there partner..... some of us are very happy to have him on our team!
At least now the DB's won't be hovering 10 yds from the line on every single play and they'll have to stick w/their receiver for the whole play- even on the far side of the field. Thomas Jones should also have an easier time running this year just because of the constant threat of Brett's arm.
Brett... welcome to the J...E...T...S!

Gotta love the irony... if all goes as planned- Brett will be starting against Chad- the new QB for the fins in our first game of the season at Miami!

If all goes well, Chad will be a shining star in Miami and get to play an offense made for him, which the Jets offense never was. Did you ever see him play with Moss at Marshall? Ever see his arm at Marshall when he through bombs to Moss? The reason he through short passes is that was the Jets offense. He wasn't given enough chances to go long.

I am sure you are very happy to have him and yes the game with Miami will be interesting. I am just tired of all the media attention he gets and to be honest I am not sure how much he will improve the Jets. I have always thought he is the most overrated and hyped player in sports history but that is just me.

I agree to a point. I think he was a little overhyped, but he was still a great athlete. It just frustrates me anytime an athlete retires, then wants to come back. And to do it so soon, and in the fashion that it happend, leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth for Favre. I used to respect him for his humbleness and the love of the game. Now, I am not so sure about all that. Seeing him in a Jets uniform just isn't right. I used to tune into a GB game, just because Favre was playing. I don't think I'll turn on a Jets game because Favre is playing. He was more of an "Icon" to the team, not a superman QB. Take the ICON away, and you now have an average QB for a below average team.

No Jet fan could ever wish ill will toward Chad. He was a class act from day one and stayed that way till his last day with the Jets.... and that says a lot about his character- especially considering he had to deal with us NY fans and media. We all wish him much success with the fins. Hey, if he wins two games for them this year... he's a superstar:D:D

Did you ever see him play with Moss at Marshall? Ever see his arm at Marshall when he through bombs to Moss? The reason he through short passes is that was the Jets offense. He wasn't given enough chances to go long.
Never saw anything other then highlights of Chad at Marshall, but I think the many injuries he sustained due to the porous Jet O-line really limited his arm strength and overall mobility in the long run. Hopefully, his new situation will suit him better than his former situation.

Because of all the damage his arm and shoulder have sustained and all the trauma from all those surgeries, Pennington's arm is nothing like the one that threw bombs to Moss at Marshall. He simply can't consistently throw the deep outs and vertical routes anymore. He's a very limited quarterback now, as the Dolphins will find out. Nothing against Chad, I agree he's been a class act, but that's just the way it is. I doubt he'll start more than a few games for them.

Favre is a huge upgrade in that position for the Jets. Still won't matter, of course.

When you are talking the last spot, there will be a bunch of teams there in December. The AFC is tough conference it will be tough for them especially with Farve already complaining about a tired arm.

 That's just crazy talk, or lingering bitterness from being a division rival of his for lo these many years. ;) I don't expect him to be a star up there, but he will be a very serviceable quarterback for them this season and, considering it's Brett Favre, he'll play every snap. He can still read defenses and he can still toss the rock with the best of 'em.

Nah, I have no beef with him, I just think he's done. Especially after being set in his mind that he was retiring.

Well, I think this whole saga meant retirement wasn't set in his mind. I think he was pressured by Packers management, initially acquiesced, then said to hell with that, he can still play and still has the desire.

Disagree. He has lost the sense of when and where to throw the ball. Too many desperation tosses.

Well, he's kinda' always been a little bit reckless; that's his modus operandi. It's what has made him both a three-time MVP and so compelling to watch. The Jets will get the whole Favre deal - that includes amazing plays as well as the occasional horrible pick. If there are more of the former than the latter, and I'm betting there will, he will be an upgrade for their team. We shall see.

Meanwhile, I need to steel myself against the desperation tosses I can already see coming from our resident gunslinger, the recently repaired Mr. Delhomme. I've already stocked up on Pepto Bismol and Valium.

I totally agree. I've rooted against Favre maaaany times over the years but I was rooting for him in his battle against the Packers organization. That being said I think going to the Jets was the wrong move. The Jets' conference is too tough IMHO. The Vikings or Bears would have been a better fit if Green Bay had allowed it.

Favre had less interceptions last year than that other NY quarterback that everyone has crowned after a good 4 game stretch.

Edit: And if the Packers believed Favre was done, they would have gladly traded him in the division or in the NFC. See Patriots and Drew Bledsoe.

Favre is a huge upgrade in that position for the Jets. Still won't matter, of course.

Unfortunately, he got stuck with the "He can't throw" well before his injury. Us Pennington/Marshall fans didn't understand it. Their offensive scheme was NOT built on long throws. He would get maybe one attempt a week, so he was out of practice. Then came the shoulder injury, which we understood hurt his arm. But again, he was defined as a short passer well before his shoulder injury and had many of us scratching their heads.

He was a Rhoads Scholar Finalist, and I think he once said he'd like to get into commentating games. So, maybe we'll see him there if the Dolphins don't pan out for him.

Back to Favre. I wish him well, but I quit following his career last year before he was reborn again.

Well, here's their schedule. I'll make my predictions.

1 Sep 07 NYJ @ MIA 1:00 PM - W (Favre is all over the front pages of the NY papers and Jet fans say Favre will be taking them to the SB)

2 Sep 14 NE @ NYJ 4:15 PM - L

3 Sep 22 NYJ @ SD 8:30 PM - L

4 Sep 28 ARI @ NYJ 1:00 PM - L ( ''F-A-V-R-E SUCKS! SUCKS! SUCKS!'' is on the front page of the NY papers)

6 Oct 12 CIN @ NYJ 1:00 PM - W

7 Oct 19 NYJ @ OAK 4:15 PM - L

8 Oct 26 KC @ NYJ 1:00 PM - W

9 Nov 02 NYJ @ BUF 1:00 PM - L

10 Nov 09 STL @ NYJ 1:00 PM - W

11 Nov 13 NYJ @ NE 8:15 PM - L

12 Nov 23 NYJ @ TEN 1:00 PM - W

16 Dec 21 NYJ @ SEA 4:05 PM - L

So personally, I think they'll go 8-8.

Can't wait to see Bruschi, Mayo, Thomas, Harrison, Vrabel, etc., etc, abuse Favre week 2 and week 11. Last time the Pats played Favre, the Pats won 35-0.

I could see the Jets going anywhere from 7-9 and 9-7. I also think that NY is the worst possible place that Favre could have gone. He's going from Green Bay where he had maybe 3 local beat writers covering him and fawn all over him to NY, where he is just one star in a sea of many, and the writers are chomping at the bit to tear him apart. Can you image what the NY media is going to do the first time he kills a drive by being careless with the ball.

I don't think it's Favre's ability to play that is the issue so much as him not being willing to do the homework it will take to learn a new system etc.., IMO.

He said this just a couple days ago: "I wondered this morning when I got up, 'What in the heck am I doing?'" Favre said. He excused the comment but I think it was a telling thing to say this early on. Especially given his history of vacillating.

I agree with the poster who said that if he didn't still have the physical ability the Pack wouldn't have worried about trading him out of the conference.

He's an absolute legend, but he's with a new team and a whole new offense. Favre trying to adjust to the new playbook will be a lot harder than people think. Just because he's a future HOF'er doesn't mean he's going to be able to automatically flip a switch and just coast like it's a piece of cake. Not to mention he's playing in NY, where the media jumps right down your throat the second you **** up. Favre says he's going to be fine in NY, but just wait until he's actually in the thick of it. Do you only watch Jets games? I'm a Pats fan, but at least I pay attention to what else is going on in the league.

The Bills were 8-8 last year, but they could of been 10-6. In week 1 they were beat on a last second FG by Jason Elam and Dallas had a miracle win against them in week 5. They have a decent defense that's only improving and a RB in Marshawn Lynch who's already top 10 back in the league, Lee Evans and Roscoe Parrish at wideout. Not to mention they have Terrence McGee and '08 draft pick Leodis McKelvin at corner and Paul Posluszny at MLB. That's a team there with a lot of potential.

Sorry I'm late to the aftergame party boys....

That old Brett looked pretty darn good in his new Jet green. Yeah, it was only 14 plays.... but 5 for 6 passes completed, one TD and zero pics. That's a pretty good start :D:D

Now the bad news- our current backup QB Kellen Clemens- looked like shite on rye
He tripped over his own feet twice and completed only five of 12 passes for 63 yards ( He's had a terrible training camp/pre-season so far). He may be replaced by our 1st year player "The Other Brett" Brett Ratliff (who leads the NFL in passing yards with 400) he's been pretty impressive so far this pre-season.

I too think the Bills are pretty tough (they match up well against us) and certainly aren't going to be a pushover at any rate. I'd love to beat them twice, but think we'll have to settle for a 50/50 split with them this season.

Maybe we'll split w/the Pats this year :D:D
