The Grafik Eye is the most popular solution on this forum. You can look at the big sticky at the top of this thread for more details. It's fairly "simple" and can be controlled by the Harmony without problems. The single-zone Lutron dimmers also work well, but depending on the number of zones and number of scenes desired, the GE can be more cost-effective.

And the other popular option is Insteon. The Insteon stuff is particularly great if you want to extend the control-ability to the rest of your house.

I have two Insteon switches in my HT - a breeze to setup and easily controllable via universal remote.

The Lutron remote control dimmers work fine if you only need a couple of zones. The biggest problem I've had is that you have to point the remote right at the wall-mounted dimmer. In my room, the dimmer is about 50-degrees and 15 feet to the left of my equipment cabinet. The dimmer doesn't "see" IR commands when the remote is pointed at the equipment cabinet, and the IR receiver on the equipment cabinet doesn't "see" commands when the remote is pointed at the dimmer. This has kept me from using a single macro string to, say, "play" the movie and dim the lights at the same time. Some day I might get around to running an IR extender from the equip cabinet to the dimmer to fix this.

I have the Lutron spacer system and love it. I work it easily with my Harmony 880. Very simple to set up and operate.

I like the Insteon setup b/c it doesn't require any special wiring (as long as it's all in the same phase), just hook it up and go...
I have a touchpad as you walk into the room, 3 dimmers hidden in the equipment closet, and the Harmony RF extender has a IR blaster controlling the IR receiver. I think it works like a champ!

Another vote for insteon. No special wiring, system can be expanded at anytime and it never fails to accept a signal. I am controlling mine by assigning them simple x10 addresses and IR blasting through an x10 to IR repeater. Harmony 1000 controls everything anywhere in the house!

I was curious on the set-up and how it functions. I am about two weeks away from finishing my room but got stuck on the lighting control. I have two double gang boxes as you enter the room. I initially had figured one slot for a scene control unit and the other three for dimmers to control; step lights; sconces; and cans. When I set all this up, I was looking at the Leviton Vizia RF (Z-Wave) controls but everyone here really seems to like Insteon.

Are there any issues with the close proximity of the dimmers/controller? Can the Insteon be programmed for multiple scenes?

Thanks ahead of time for any help that can be provided.

Yes and yes.

Honestly, just do some reading over on www.smarthome.com. You'll find all of the various options listed there.

I ordered some Intermatic HA14C dimmers yesterday from Amazon. $34/ea. They utilize Z-wave which I decided would work better together much better then the Lutron Maestro IR. Of course the catch is, you have to have an 890.

I might get some Maestro IRs for my non HT rooms where I won't need to creates scenes, etc.

If you have a build thread link it here and we can go discuss it. If not...start one with your specific question. There are so many options it would clutter this discussion. Also, read at www.smarthome.com as Cathan suggested.

I hope this works. (Not sure how you go about doing the "named" link like you have in your signature area that takes you to your thread.)

I am also looking at the "read" you suggested at smarthome.
