I'm getting HD on channels 70-99 (Direct TV), but I'm not getting locals or CNN, National Geographic, CNBC, etc, on my TV. This is only on one TV in the house in which I only have a Direct TV HD receiver (no DVR).
Why doesn't this box get HD channels like the others in the house that have the DVR?
Thanks in advance

CNN, National Geogrphic and CNBC are not local channels since they do not broadcast OTA.
They are only available from services that pay them license fees for each connected supscriber.

Because it is an older MPEG2 receiver that does not receive the newer MPEG4 channels.
Oh, gotcha. Can I convert this, or must I buy another receiver?

You need a receiver which starts with a HR2. or H2.

You will probably need the slimline dish to get MPEG-4 along with the H or the HR receiver.

So to recap, the OP states he is getting the MPEG4 programming in his house on the other HD DVRs and he just does not get it on this one NON-DVR - and you think he doesn't have a 5 lnb dish installed
