View Full Version : Says Connected at 50% but no internet or playstation store gwlaw99 08-18-08, 04:25 PM When i run the internet test, it gets and IP address and says it's connected at 50% but I cant use the web browser or connect to the playstation store. This is a wireless connection. Help. RoguishClyde 08-18-08, 09:21 PM Try one of these with your router: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDVydiiBfiE&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmF2iiEt4kU&feature=related http://www.freeantennas.com/projects/template2/index.html ^^^^Print template at bottom of page^^^^ There are many other on you-tube have a look. gwlaw99 08-19-08, 11:10 AM Is it really a matter of signal strength? Shouldnt I get a connection at 50% even if it's slow? RoguishClyde 08-19-08, 12:29 PM Yes, signal has everything to do with it, Wireless connections are sketchy in the first place. Everything from Radio towers; Montiors, Speakers, Cable boxes, Cell phones, Cordless phone, Microwaves among other things can cause interferance. I was just trying to help; The one with the template will take you about 10 min, some tape and foil. Just try it. (Don't be lazy; this post makes you look like it already, i got the videos off youtube in just 1 min of searching. ) I'm goin strickly on what you've told us; Nothing = Your connected at 50%. Your router is located where? Your PS3 is located where? What's the distance between the two points. Are there any obstuctions? (Walls, doors, Floors, <On this note; materials also play a roll in allowing signal transmission>) What type of router do you have? What chanel is your Router brodcasting on? Some other questions: Has it worked before? Have you configured your router? Are you using any type security? (Wep, Router Firewall) Answer these questions above and some more people might be able to help. gwlaw99 08-19-08, 01:21 PM Thanks very much for your replies! I didn't mean to insinuate I wont try all of those ideas for better signal strength. I was just curious if there could be another cause because it does say that it is connected to the internet. yes it has worked before. The distance is about 30 feet but there are several walls inbetween. It is connected to my Verizon Fios Router. WEP security Router channel is "auto" I haven't configured my router at all. Verizon didn't give me any instructions. jrinck 08-19-08, 01:28 PM Are you connected to the Playstation Network? If you are, then you should be able to at least get some functionality from the store and browser. And if you do get connection to the Playstation Network, do you frequently get disconnected from it? gwlaw99 08-19-08, 01:57 PM I can't connect to PN. I only got my PS3 2 weeks ago. I have been able to connect before at 50% and have downloaded a few demos and browsed the web. RoguishClyde 08-19-08, 02:56 PM Try one of the options above, as well as power-cycle your router. Again I sugest using the Template Image first fastest and most people have results. The only other thing I can think of you added something new to the mix of electronics. Did you move your router next to your monitor, is it located next to low-quality sheilded speakers, Is it on the floor or on the desk, are your antennas connections snug and facing up. You could always try to face the antenna twards the PS3 room. Good luck, and let us know how it turns out. jrinck 08-19-08, 04:16 PM I can't connect to PN. I only got my PS3 2 weeks ago. I have been able to connect before at 50% and have downloaded a few demos and browsed the web. 50% is probably on the border-edge of stable. Either do a homebrew fix, as linked above, or ask Verizon if they offer a range extender (or can recommend one.) The parabolic reflector template thingie is the easiest to try--so give that a shot first. gwlaw99 08-19-08, 04:24 PM Great Thanks! gwlaw99 08-19-08, 04:25 PM Did you move your router next to your monitor, My router is right next to my CRT monitor. Is that bad? By the way is there a way to add an antenna to the PS3? kinggabbo 08-19-08, 04:26 PM I sometimes have a weak wireless signal on my PS3. I find that anything about 50% or below and you will have trouble connecting to the Playstation Network and Store. It has a connection to your router/Internet but it seems it's just not good enough for the Network/Store. I think the problem is that the PS3's wifi is weak. I just moved my router around until I got a good signal. It's in a wheels off place, but I get alot better signal now. I have tried a range extender and while that did ensure a connection to the Network and Store, I found that it greatly increased lag |
