View Full Version : How Close Can "Above Stage" Eyeball lights be to AT Screen Wall?

There has been quite some progress over the weekend. The Drywall is up and I am just waiting for the guy to come back to tape/mud. The only problem I did not forsee is the proximity between the 4" eyeball can lights above the stage and the the future location of the AT screen wall. The electrician mounted the light fixtures in the soffit above the stage a 27" from the main wall, at the time I was more concerned about the location of the first row of sconces that I had forgotten to even look up at the eyeball cans to realize that they are awefully close to where the AT screen wall is going to be.

My Klipsch speakers are about 20" deep, so in reality I would need a minimum 26" of clearance between the AT screen wall and the actual main wall. So if I were to mount the screen wall at 24"-25" from the wall, I am only leaving about 2"-3" inches from the where the front screen wall is and where the eyeball can trim begins. So what do you think I should do? Should I bother have the drywall guy take down the drywall from that soffit, move the cans 3" out (hopefully as long as I have enough wire slack) and re-attach/patch drywall before he tapes and mud? Please help.

Seems pretty close to me. Just to be safe you would want some more wiggle room then that. Nows the time to do it.

I agree Oman. I don't know where my head was at during the process...I spent so much time aligning the sconces and cans when the electrician was wiring eveything, but I never once thought about the distance between the screen wall and and the eyeball cans. The drywall guy is coming back to tape/mud this week, so I will bring it up to him and offer him $20-$30 to re-do it since I still have plenty of drywall left. Worst case I can take down the drywall and do it myself. My only concern at the moment is whether my electrican left 3"-4" of slack to move the cans bilaterarly. It shouldn't be a problem since I am not moving the cans away from each other, just moving the main wire connecting them a few inches outwards.

EDIT: I just spoke with the drywall guy and he said no problem, he will re-hang the drywall tomorrow, so I'll remove the drywall and move the cans tonight.

I made the same mistake myself, so don't feel bad. I kept the lights as-is and am just changing my plans a little to work the mistake into the theater.
