I've read through some of the sub placement articles linked in the 101 thread, but am still not sure of the best spot to put my sub. I have a fairly small room and limited placement options.

- I currently have my sub up front on the left side, but the left side of the room opens up onto a hallway and the dining room area. With all of that open space right there, I can only assume that I lose a lot of bass.

- Placement on the right hits the front door opening.

- I could also possibly try the rear right corner between the couches.

Based on the attached floorplan (it is to scale) what would likely be my best placement? It's a JBL S120PII sub and the TV pretty much has to stay on the same wall it is currently on.

Thanks in advance.

Would couches that close to the sub be likely to cause their own set of problems?
I realize the low frequencies go through walls relatively easily, but I'm wondering if furniture being that close would absorb a lot of the sound.

Just trying to cover all my bases before I run out and buy a longer sub cable for the rear corner placement.

It looks like there are only two other "practical" locations for sub placement; 1. the lower right corner between the couches, and 2. behind the right front speaker, (similar to the the current left side placement, but on the right, behind and below the right front speaker).

I would try #2, (assuming it is a "practical" location), before spending any money on a cable. If that doesn't work, or is not practical, then your best bet is the lower right location between the couches. Just be sure to set a crossover of 80 Hz or lower. Otherwise the sub will be localizable, and in that location, you don't want to be able to localize it. Also, be aware that a corner location like that will excite all the room modes and, although it may give you the "most" bass, it probably won't be the "best" bass, especially with all your listening positions so close to the boundary walls.
