What's up with SVS Sound? I went to their website to order a PB12-PLUS sub in the rosenut finish from online and there sold out of everything except the ULTRA series in the box type enclosures. I called them and the rep was like "were not even sure we are going to continue the rosenut finish in the PLUS series". He even went on to say he doesn't even know when they will be getting any of the PLUS series in. I then asked him "well what about the PLUS/2 series?" He said that they have discontinued that series of subs. I was like; well what do you have then? He said, well we have the ULTRA series. I was like; "what if I don't want a forward firing subwoofer?" He was like; well I'm sorry sir." Are they trying to drive people away or what? I really wanted the PB12-PLUS but I may have to settle for a forward firing ULTRA that's almost twice as much money. I read all this hype over SVS subs but they carry almost nothing anymore. Anybody else faced with this situation or did I just get a disgruntled rep? $1000 on a downward firing sub is more my fortè than a $1400 forward firing sub. It doesn't hit the budget quiet as hard if you know what I mean.

off the top of my head, i don't think there are other down firing subs in that "range"
except the cylinder subs from SVS.

the plus/2 has been replaced by the ultra 13.

my preference is front firing myself, but you do know there's no performance difference between front and down firing right?

i guess you should settle with the PB12Plus textured black if downfiring is that important, but i would guess it would take TWO PB12Pluses to match an Ultra 13.

They might be clearing out their old models to make room for new ones.

I think there was a disconnect in the conversation.

I guess I'll have to put off the new bedroom suite for a little longer than the wife wants so I can get the PB13-ULTRA. I was eventually going to buy another PB12-PLUS later, after I bought the first one. With the ULTRA, all I'll ever need is just the one. Thanks for your input.

I also find it a little funny that they're discontinuing so many models. The PB 12+/2 was a very popular sub and for good reason. now they don't sell it any more. buy an ultra. buy an ultra. this seems to be the only choice. take choices away from the consumer and they'll "choose" to go somewhere else I say...

Knowing them they are replacing with better models.I know from talking with Ron Stimpson some finishes simply don't sell well enough to have runs.

This might be the wrong place to put this, or I might of miss the report, I just remember this after reading the above.
What ever happen to the SVS Eq device ? It was suppose to be very similar to the Velodyne SMS1.

Sorry for the off topic.

I think what you have found is that SVS is in the middle of change. They have discountiued certain subs, but they will be replacing them with something better.

One of the big issues in business today, especially for a small online company like SVS is time. It takes alot of time to go from design to delivery. Lots of components are made overseas. They simply can't order 500 subs and have them here tomorrow. It takes months to get anything done.

You also have to be very careful that those 500 subs are as good as the competion. You get 500 subs in at $ 500 each, that's a cool quarter million dollars.

The ironic part is if you can afford it, the ultra is a fantastic sub. You really can't go wrong for the money.

I was just going to say that, The ultra being the only option is not a bad thing.

I think it's a safe bet that we have seen the last of down fire box subs from SVS, at least for a while. Every PB sub since the PB10 has been FF, so chances are that whatever they will replace the old Plus series with will be too.

There are som pros an cons with both FF and DF, but the only pro with FF as far as I can tell is that they are a bit more pleasing to the eye for those who prefer not seeing the driver. On the other hand a similar FF sub will be a bit smaller and more likely to have a more linear FR in the upper frequencies.

The driver for the previous generation Ultra is the TV 12 which you can still buy from the SVS web site for $579. SVS has brought in a number of people:

Ed Mullen was an engineer for a brewery.

SVS brought in a guy who used to work for Toyota.

I am almost certain that SVS brought in a driver designer from TC Sounds.

PS I didn't see anything in the post by Ron Stimpson stating that Tom Vodhanel was gone.

Like any good spokesperson, he neither confirmed nor denied it, all in 10,000 words or less.

Where there's smoke there's fire in regards to new SVS products. There are going to be some announcements coming shortly after Cedia. Ron S sends his regards, but is too busy to post :). No, I'm not affiliated, but I did inquire and was asked to pass it along.

did you happen to "inquire" about Tom's current status at SVS?Sherv, I've never spoken to Tom, but I know Ron a little bit. He replied to my question and said go ahead post it. I don't know those guys well enough to pry into their business.

When I got my first SVS (PC20-39+), the driver's VC opened in less than 1 hour of play time. I talked with Ron, on a Sunday at his home. He sent out a replacement driver and amp, as we didn't know what had failed. The replacement driver was an unreleased 12.3. Ron asked me to keep it under my hat until it made it to general availability. I agreed. He also offered to exchange the PC+ with a +/2 with the 12.3 drivers if I wasn't happy with the 20-39. I took the offer and SVS paid for all the shipping except my original shipment. All this is what made me a loyal SVS customer. I waited until Ron released me from my confidentiality agreement before I posted about the new driver. It was 2 weeks of hell.

I believe SVS does have some new products to replace the + line, but they aren't going to have the same issues they had with the prerelease of the U13 or that HSU had with the HO. Hopefully, they won't be seriously hurt by having so few +s to sell before the new products hit the market.

i'm glad i haven't encountered such problems, but it sure seems like a lucky thing to encounter based on your story :) i wonder if there's an ultra 15 to fall back on if i wasn't "satisfied" with the ultra 13 :D

I just purchased two of their new cylinder series subs that use the same driver as the PB-13. I also purchased two of ther PB12/Plus 2 subs since they were closing them out to be replaced by the Ultra (great price and unreal performance). The Ultra has similar performance in a slightly smaller enclosure than the PB12/Plus 2.

I have owned other of their products (dual B4's) and they are a fine company to do business with.

Didn't realize the rosewood PB+/2 was in such demand. I can let my wife know my 'investment' in our ht has finally appreciated!!
