I have been noticing HD promos during the Olympics for Deal. Perhaps the upcoming season will be. Hopefully...I guess:o

I don't know, but I sure wouldn't complain. I wouldn't mind seeing the ladies in High Def. :D

The video arcade game has better PQ than the TV Show! LOL... (I won 200 tickets one time).

I was just about to ask the same question.

Deal or No Deal has already proven to be a huge success for NBC; it really doesn't make any sense why NBC won't upgrade one of their most successful shows on TV right now to HD.

I could understand if Deal or No Deal was just starting out... But for a show to be in its 3rd year in 2008 and not be in HD is a real shame.

I'll need to wear sunglasses from the reflection in "Dr. Fiscus'" bald head if this is true.

Live shows like AI, DWTS and Nashville Star are easier to do in HD than pre-recorded shows because recorded shows usually require lots of iso record machines, plus post production costs. OTH I expect all primetime shows to go HD in the next year or two. It is a little ironic that one of NBC's top rated shows is SD but WWE is HD.

WWE's target demographic of 18-34 middle-class males is getting into HD in a big way, so they want to stay with the curve to attract more viewers. DoND is already drawing good numbers and has a target demographic that doesn't care nearly as much about HD, so the few viewers gained probably wouldn't be enough to offset the extra cost.

(sigh)The obligatory "WWE bash" post has been made. As stated above, WWE is big business, especially with the HD target audience. Just watch it once, it's spectacular!

As for DoND, you'll have to tell me if it's HD or not. WKYC is preempting the first Monday after the olympics for an Indians game. It gets replayed later that night.

On the other hand, that "America's toughest jobs" is also not shown :D I'll call THAT a win!

I seriously doubt the show is going HD even though it's screaming for it, for obvious reasons. ;)

I saw the promos today. They used actual scenes from the show, but the cuts were so short it wasn't enough to really tell.

No indication of HD on NBC.com or other online listings.

To be fair, NBC.com's schedule hasn't listed any Olympics coverage in HD. It also doesn't list NFL preseason coverage in HD nor NBC News' convention coverage in HD -- even though both will be in HD.

In fact, isn't America's Toughest Jobs supposed to be HD as well? That's not listed either.

I wondered the same thing. However, DoND has lost its novelty on me. But as long as it keeps leading for Heroes, it'll likely survive. I guess featuring the "ladies" more and more will also help it retain viewers.

I'd say no for two reasons. First, the real, logical reason. Since it appears to be an on-location show(similar to "Dirty Jobs") that would mean alot of remote HD cameras and HD editing. I doubt an NBC reality show would have the budget for that. Even America's Got Talent and Last Comic Standing aren't HD, except for that live episode of LCS.

And the other reason, my opinion. NBC would be absolutely stupid to waste the $$$ on making an extremely crappy show HD. The promos were enough to make me not want to watch this. I like the Discovery Channel's "Dirty Jobs" series with Mike Rowe. THAT is a well produced show. This NBC show screams cheap knockoff. And it's a REALITY SHOW with competitors (gag). NBC is the network that wouldn't do HD for "Scrubs"(even though ABC will) and shows like "Meet the Press" are not HD. So it would be ridiculous for a crappy reality show that will most likely be canceled before the fall lineup starts to be HD.

Just because commercials are widescreen doesn't mean HD. Last season commercials for "Scrubs" were letterboxed and widescreen on the HD channel, yet the show wasn't.

Toughest Jobs is produced by the company that does Deadliest Catch and Ice Road Truckers. I believe when the announcement was made back when that NBC had lined up a series of productions, it was stated they'd be in HD. Maybe I'm wrong.

I did find on Wikipedia that Deal or no Deal is listed as 480i SDTV / 1080i HDTV. I know you can't always trust everything on Wikipedia but it makes me wonder. Only gotta wait one more day...

I just watched a short preview of DOnD on Nbc.com and it was in 4:3. I am not saying it won't be in HD, but I would be very surprised if it was.

The cut scenes were HD and had the macro blocking on one, while that gives it some hope as we have seen in the past there is no telling till tomorrow. I did some brief google searches, but I haven't read any write ups about it either except this thread here. Ken H would be the one to ask and usually he finds out if he doesn't already know. I would also be surprised if he or fredfa didn't already make mention of it.

As predicted, America's Toughest Jobs is in HD.

Only remaining question: America's Got Talent. I'd say odds for HD are decent since it's going to be live from here on out.

I see NBC learned nothing. Back to the same bulls... ad bugs and giant snipes taking up the bottom of the screen.

(bird) NOW - DEAL OR NO DEAL SEASON PREMIERE

Is that crappy show that just started at 9 HD? All I have is an SD analog OTA feed of an out of town NBC station.

Question answered. What a damn shame!! A true waste of HD. NBC is really showing their stupidity tonight. They don't make a good show like Deal HD but they make some reality piece of **** HD. **** NBC!!!

And their logos are the same. I was hoping the ad-free bug in the top RIGHT corner was a sign of things to come. As in a ad-free bug in the RIGHT corner.

The question is I have is would they record just the promos in HD or is the whole show recorded in HD, but for some reason, they don't want to show it in HD?

NBC has been doing almost all promos for all shows in HD for some time now, whether or not the show is in HD. Scrubs promos were in HD as well for that SD show.

I was hoping the ad-free bug in the top RIGHT corner was a sign of things to come. As in a ad-free bug in the RIGHT corner.:mad:The left side IS the right side! :p

Seriously though, I don't understand why you think that bugs should go on the right side of the screen. Left looks better to me, not to mention the right side is more unpredictable as far as where a TV will cut off the picture, especially on older CRT sets.

We picked the wrong suitcase, all SD!, like they need that many cameras for a studio show....

Oh BTW, Stop spoiling us NBC! first that the contestant will go to the last suitcase, then that next Monday they promised the Million... not nice..

Just my guess, but I think it will still be some time before we see game shows and reality shows in HD. They are cheap to produce, compared to a sitcom or drama. As long as they can continue to get away with SD content, that's more money for them to make.

Jeopardy! Wheel, Price Is Right (starting next month in daytime) and Cash Cab all are in HD.

NBC spends too much money on things like new fonts for their snipes and promo bugs instead. DoND is screaming (in many ways) to be in HD.

And the teases about what happens next "act" or episode have got to stop. No need to watch the first 45 min or so.

hdguru
08-26-08, 12:58 PM
It's could easily be true that the studio where the huge DoND set is located is simply not equipped for HD. There's no reason to assume that it's even taped at NBC.

Now...if it's shot on a movie studio lot, with a mobile truck for the video hardware....that's another story. Then it's simply a matter of spending a few extra $$ for the HD truck and post production.

When the show went "on the road" to Europe and Asia, they used the available local hardware and simply converted the mostly PAL tapes to NTSC.

Culver Studios:

...the studio has been the home of numerous feature films, including Universal's State of Play and New Line Cinema's Rush Hour 3. The 3-D motion capture film Beowulf was also "filmed" at the studio. On the television side, the studio is home to NBC's game show sensation Deal or No Deal, America's Next Top Model, NBC's The Starter Wife and The Bonnie Hunt Show.

If not HD, then at least make it widescreen SD. Fox does that with 'Lyrics'.

I learned one thing about this show last season, record it. Then it only takes 22-24 min to watch and you won't miss anything. They spend way to much time milking the contestant.

DrLar
08-26-08, 02:10 PM
They will do a 30 min version repeats in our local station, and you are right, 20 mins is enough plus the 10 of comemrcials.

Just for the record... America's Toughest Jobs >>>>>>>> DOnD. It might be somewhat fun to watch DOnD, but that show is basically Jeopardy for retards. Probably the only game show where you could have an IQ of 25 and still have the ability to participate. I didn't watch, but I heard there were two cases left, one was the Million, the other was $5,000. The girl passed on the $500,000 guaranteed money offer and went for the million and failed epically. What a dope.

Dude, is DOnD really that exciting? All it is, is people picking cases and trying to win as much money as they can. It has the same challenge level of playing Connect Four. Like I said before... Deal or No Deal = Jeopardy for retards. America's Toughest Job's is a MUCH superior show than DOnD.

maybe NBC decided to be honest and not tag the crap they call HD seeing how awful it looks

HD rez, SD results

more than likely the DOND promos were just upconverts, with some added gloss. stuff like that fools people all the time - especially when you are use to the crap HD some nets put out. Cops or Fox Sunday or Kitchen Nightmares always fool people too, all 16:9 SD

Speaking of Aubrie (# 23) there was a program on HDNet called Blue Sky Beauties that featured her and that included a clip of DoND in HD.

OK, those definitely win the award for "Best Attached Images at AVS Forum Ever"!!! :D

Was it a real HD clip? Not adjusted for 16:9? So they must have an HD version somewhere but NBC is too cheap or stupid to use it.

NBC's promo team obviously has HD cameras and equipment. That doesn't mean the show is done in HD and NBC is just "keeping it from us."
